Jake Livermore

Players like Livermore are spurs through and through like ourselves and would bleed for the club. He's not a badge kisser or chest thumper, because he doesn't need to be. He is one of us and only true fans like Jake know the emotional investment we put into spurs thus they strive to play better.

I like Livermore and he has completely exceeded my expectations this season, but I don't believe that players feel the same as fans.

He has exceeded expectations yes, but why is that? Is it because he is an amazing player or because your expectations were never that high?

He seems like a decent squad player, I am hoping that all the quality that surrounds him when he is on the pitch will rub off on him and he will a great part of future events.

I didn't think that much of him in his first couple of games in the Europa League earlier in the season but he has improved a lot since then. I don't see him ever being anything more than a squad player for us but we need those.

I respectfully disagree. The rate of improvement he's shown over half a season has been fantastic, and if he keeps it up (i.e, gets playing time and improves his decision-making, which I think is slightly lacking)I see him as a direct competitor with Sandro for a first-team place, since Parker won't go on forever.

I doubt they will be fit all season, plus we will be in 4 competitions next season. Sandro seems to pick up his share of knocks, and who says Hudd will be fit?

Well, we can't hinder his development by playing him in half the games or less, or bringing him on as a sub when we're comfortable, and expect him to flourish into a player at Fletcher or Parker's level. We need to let him get a full season of regular games. Even more so next season, since we (likely) won't have Europa League games to play in. So, I see no great risk in loaning him out to a Prem side and letting someone like young Tom Carroll or Massimo Luongo take his place on the bench for a year, before similarly being loaned out again. Hell, if squad depth is a major woe, we can do exactly what we did with Saha and Nelsen, which is signing an ageing or out-of-favor player for a year or so while he's away. Owen Hargreaves, Anatoliy Tymoschuk or someone similar.

jenas mk II minus the mobility. do not rate, at all.

What can more can you really expect from a fourth choice defensive midfielder?

He's commited, has good technique, strong in the tackle and most of all, actually gives a fudge about the club. But no, lets sell him and get in Khedira De Rossi and Alonso in as back up.

I wasn't sure about replying to the guy, it seemed like he was joking. Still, you've said what's on my mind, so Danke Schon.

For the record, if it was a joke, I don't get it.

He's not joking, he's posted about it before but I'm pretty sure he's foe'd me so he won't read my insight anyway.

It really does astound me though sometimes, some folks think we should go out and buy 25 world class players, and it just doesn't work like that.

Jake isn't going to turn up to Raboner's birthday after the comments he's made.

A Spurs supporting friend of mine (whose husband is hardcore Arsenal it seems) told me this story of a friend of hers. This friend's son's favourite player is Jake and for his birthday they tweeted JL to ask if he would sign his Spurs shirt (if they sent it). He agreed. Now on the kid's birthday there's a knock at the door and guess who? JL turns up with these gifts and personally wishes him a Happy Birthday (and chats to the lad). Of course they're over the moon! Oh and my mate's husband thought it was a brilliant gesture...

Good lad...

Fantastic story and kudos to Livermore, quite strange for a child to have an industrious utility player as their favourite though

That's what I thought but I think the lad is from Enfield as is Jake so maybe something to do with that. Oh and he drives a Bentley so I'm told - not bad for a utility player :D

mate i haven't foe'd you.. i just legitimately don't rate livermore.

i don't give a fudge how much me 'loves the club' .. i love the club, but i wouldn't play myself central midfield, because frankly, i'm brick.

he is championship standard, some of his passing against stevenage was absolutely cringe-worthy, not to mention his lack of vision and positional sense.

as long as we are striving to win the league or qualify for champions league, he does not make the cut i am afraid.

i shudder to think of him lining up against the lines of Real, Barca, Munich, whoever, it would be ugly and that's the facts.

i understand that he serves a purpose for the remainder of this season, but after that, no thank you, he should be moved on.

Ah, so you weren't joking. My apologies. However, I disagree. His passing accuracy is actually fairly accurate over the season, and in some games (against Everton, for example) absolutely imperious. He registered a 90 percent pass completion rate in that one, I believe. I agree that most of them are backwards or sideways, but he was never meant to be the link man between defence and attack, a la Modric, more a screener of the defense. And in that respect, he's already unrecognizable from the hesitant player he was against United in the first game. He's more confident, his positioning has come on in leaps and bounds, and he's settled into our passing rhythm really well. If he continues this rate of improvement, I see no reason why he can't challenge Sandro for a place in the future.

As for playing against Real or Barca, 99 percent of defensive mids around the world would have a hard time of it. They're just in their own respective leagues. Livermore can do a decent job, and I fail to see why he has to be judged on Real or Barca standards; we're not at that level, and we won't be until we have a massive global fanbase, pay massive wages, have won innumerably more trophies than we currently have and proudly inhabit our 60,000 seater stadium. Only they can afford to bench players like Mascherano or Diarra, in order to provide world-class squad depth. We can't do that right now, and Livermore is perfect for our needs; a solid, improving young player, who has potential, would comfortably grace most mid-table teams' sides (Sunderland? Norwich?West Brom? I'm sure he'd get into all their midfields) and is loyal to the club. Eventually, I see no reason why he can't play for the likes of Saudi Sportswashing Machine, Everton or Villa, and that's not much of a step down from where we are, so in terms of cover and competition, I don't think we can get much better.

I stopped reading at that bit.

Yes, he is from Enfield or, at any rate, he went to Enfield Grammar. He was in the same year as my eldest. Jake was very highly thought of ... as a cross country runner. Eldest was a bit surprised he did so well as a footballer as he did not particularly stand out from his peers. The school reserves 5% of its places for highly accomplished sportsmen (boys) and takes its sport pretty seriously; if memory serves, Enfield Grammar got through to the schools cup final at Wembley just before they pulled the old stadium down.

Enough of the name dropping. Must admit I think Livermore has improved quite significantly this season. He looked more of a George Graham all-action muscular type last season but the pass-and-move ethos seems to be rubbing off on him.

My turn to name drop. He was a year below me in primary school and was always considered an athlete there too. But a footballer? Barely.
He's def spurs through a through though. He used to wear his spurs shirt as much as possible in lunch breaks.

Like him as a player now, he is useful. Def agree with the John O'Shea comparisons.
