If you could exile two humans off this planet

Hmm Lehmans were far from start of the crisis they just bought it to a head as a result of catastrophic losses on debt derivatives. In this country Northern Rock, RBS, HBOS, B&B, accrued unmanageable monstrous debts that have been dumped via sovereign debt directly onto me and mine.

Mate, where do you think the sub-prime model came from. If there had been no market to sell these mortgages on, our highstreet banks would never have lent in the first place. TV simply fed off of it. Suggesting that Homes Under the Hammer or Location, Location, Location actually caused the proliferation of sub-prime lending practices is mental!

Chicken and egg right there Wookie. I've correctly chosen the egg and now I am packing those two feckers off to Arcturus. Supply and demand was only indirectly for credit, it was directly for property.

I think you want to wholly pin the blame the bankers which is undoubtedly accurate, but they were not in our living rooms week in week out popularising a venal, unsustainable Hello magazine lifestyle.

Yep.

Council house dweller here!

Comprehensive school, single parent, free school dinners etc etc

Wealthy now, but I'm a Tory BECAUSE they stand for the self starters, not self loathers.

Sadly maybe once, but not so sure now. I have no idea what they stand for now, but they're better than the alternatives at the moment.

Anyway good post and that's the last post I'll post on these political matters. They rarely serve any purpose as people tend to be so entrenched in their views (for those that have genuine views and haven't just been brainwashed by parents, community views or the media).

You ignored my previous question. What election did you vote for Thatcher in before and why?

Sorry i must have missed that, as it happens i never did vote for her. I would have done in 79 but had to go on contract to the States and missed out. My wife did and she said it was the biggest mistake she ever made.

I would like whatever c unt it was that thought it a good idea to invent digital voice enhancers for the music industry.

Those failed derivatives came about from criminally deficient underwriting on mortgage loans taken out by high public demand whipped up by the broadcasters property porn, and the lure of risk free money from an ever expanding bubble in residential property.
Them two were the poster children of the madness, and although the likes of Fred the Shred, Applegarth and so on were utterly reckless, it is Allsopp and Spencers week in week out priming and baiting of the feckless that I find repugnant.

Bill Clinton started the sub-prime crisis by leaning on US banks to lend to Blacks and Hispanics to buy houses.

The banks historically, were reluctant to lend to these groups because historically they were a poor risk.

So a quota was imposed, so that a certain proportion of loans made had to be to minorities. Under threat of sanction.

Hence the rise of the Ninja loan (no income, no job, no assets).

The banks, realising they were going to be on the hook when these loans went toxic, invented products that disguised the toxic nature of parts of their loan book and sold them on.

When investors (often other banks) cottoned on they collectively shat themselves.

The rest is history.

I think Thatcher is/was a c unt.

But then I would, I'm from a working class background, the very people who missed out on the ride.

Yeah, let's sell off all the council houses, everyone will have an investment, and a promising future - until there are no council houses left for the poor, and the whole county is up to it's eyeball in debt.

That worked out well didn't it?

It's the 'I'm alright Jack' ideal.

I'll be joining the Jocks and the Taffs in blowing up the balloons when she starts her journey to hell.

Top call, I'll be breaking out he champers too.

Confusing statement considering almost everyone who purchased their council house was working class. Not sure why people associate working class with socialism. Almost all self made men I know aren't socialists......and are working class. I'm working class and am definitely not a socialist.

What a nonsensical statement! What does "self made" mean? I'm a socialist, no one gave me a hand up, I attended university and have a professional career. Does that make me "self-made"?

No that does not make you self made. No one gave you a hand up? Did you fund yourself through University then, including paying your course fees?

I beieve in a mix of private and public housing

Which is what there is now. Not that I agree with new private residential blocks being mingled with enforced social housing. Never understood why someone should work their arse off and struggle to a mortgage to live there when their next door neighbours are living in an identical property and not paying a penny for it but that's another debate all together.

But in your anti-business utopian society who is going to be able to afford to own their own property?
Also do you think we'd have the amount of home owners we do now if there wasn't a scheme to buy your council house in the 80's?
You've also demonstrated your strong environmentalism beliefs, so building new council houses would also be off the table for you right now.

So what's your answer now? Forced re-possession of people's homes so that the government owns them instead of the individual?

Oh so sorry, of course you are right...I am not self-made. I attended a government school, had my fees paid by the government and at one stage was a patient at a government hospital. By your definition, any one who utilises government services is not self-made. That probably disqualfies every single person in the western world at present.
