*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Cardiff City, Sunday 22nd September***

I'd put Townsend on the left, let him attack the full back. Plus him and naughton looked to have a good partnership, lamela for siggy

Agree. My stream was diabolical but Lamela earlier on the right and Naughton having his bum slapped by Bellamy were my only criticisms.

Not many teams will win in Cardiff this term. Superb performance.

Subs and a bit of 4-4-2 did for them. Pleased for Harry-he went close and linked well.

Wow ****in wow. Big ups to Paulinho what a lovely cheeky finish.

I'll take any sort of win today, just need to come away with 3pts. Getting a big enough win to go top would just been a massive bonus.
This game wont be easy as has been proved by Everton and City already, this may have to be a s****py 1-0 win

A PALACE 1-0
A DINAMO TBILISI 5-0
H SWANSEA 1-0
H DINAMO TBILISI 3-0
A ARSENAL 0-1
H NORWICH 2-0
H TROMSO 3-0
A CARDIFF 1-0

Not consecutive but that has to be a record number of clean sheets for us. There was run of 0-0s under Graham.

Cardiff were very tough and had a few great chances themselves (thanks to our defensive ****ups), but I don't think we were lucky at all - I think they were saved by their brilliant keeper and we could well have had more on another day, even if we didn't pulverize them all game. The stats don't tell the whole story, but when they're *this* one-sided....:

Goal attempts - 6 vs 29
Shots on target - 0 vs 12
Shots within penalty area - 3 vs 14 (see? we didn't only randomly shoot from Baleland)
Chances created in open play - 4 (2 in penalty area) vs 19 (8 in penalty area)

Okay we obviously still have some areas to iron out but look, if we're creating nearly 20 chances a game and stay solid at the back, we're going to be fine, even if we don't get the result. I'd love to see more of Holtby and Lamela alongside Eriksen, but we're still gelling, we're improving and starting to click at least sporadically, which is a huge improvement on last season. So great signs! :)

OK, i'm officially questioning AVB. Eriksen of 90 secondsto go and Holtby on? Riiiiight.

Heh.

Eriksen tired, we needed Holtby probably a few minutes sooner also.

Doesn't mean Eriksen shouldn't have started the game though. We were quality today, it takes a top team to go to a stadium like that and play with the composure we did. Even if we drew today it bodes extremely well for the rest of the season and AVBs reign in general.

Best defence in the PL
Created the most chances of any team in the first 5 games
2nd in the League

Disappointing points
Only scored 5 goals in 5 games
Should really be top tonight, that would have been 3-0 on another day

Could be top of the league by 3pm next Saturday, but we will have to play better and cut out the mistakes. Chelsea will punish more than Cardiff.

Roll on next weekend what an atmosphere it should be

Really pleasing the way we kept going right to the end. We just need to work on being sharper to the ball and crisper with our passing in the final third and we could see something a bit special emerging. At the moment, I feel we still seem too often to want too much thinking time, and then there's the thing with all the long-range banana-shots.

I agree, I do think it is a familiarity thing though - remember Holtby (injuries), Eriksen, and Lamela haven't really had a preseason with us, just a few training sessions. So we have to patient, we're showing glimpses of what we can become but it is going to take some time to really build that fluidity as a team.

On the shooting though, I really think AVB needs to have a word with Townsend. It's a fine line but Andros could develop so much more as a player if he learns better decision-making!

Tag on the Sunderland game too from May and its 8 clean sheets in the last 9 games

We have to be realistic. It is baby steps for a new young team. I don't expect us to beat Chel$ea. Lets just look for improvements in our play.

Today we passed the ball well - something I haven't seen for a long time. And we won in injury time. Next - we need more composure in the final third. Especially need to work on the wide players when teams drop deep and congest the middle.

Onwards, and we hope upwards.
