Pre Season 2013

Is there anywhere to see all English clubs preseason games? I want to see if Porto or Benfica have any games over here.

Just realized Porto are playing in the Emirates cup. Found a forum that suggests we were going to play Porto in preseason but it was cancelled. Maybe we were tinkled at them for selling moutinhio??? Just a random thought.

Disappointing to note that all the top teams are going to South East Asia regularly, except Spurs. ManU, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea are playing there this year while ManCity went there last season. Spurs last played in SEA, namely Singapore, in 1995. It seems Spurs' pre-season tours now are limited to very few countries outside Europe like US, South Africa and East Asia(Korea/China/HongKong). Spurs should be trying to explore the fan base in SEA countries as PL have a large following here. In fact, they do have Spurs fan clubs in Malaysia and Singapore. Spurs are missing out on increasing their fan base here by not coming here often. I think when it comes to marketing the club name and selling club merchandise, Spurs are well behind the big clubs.

Deliberate strategy, I think. Look at it this way: with United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea regularly going there, already possessed of large East Asian fanbases and undoubtedly able to play with greater marketing budgets than the likes of Spurs...if we went over there, we would run the risk of being overshadowed by the big boys, or worse, being ignored completely. Just because we have fan clubs in Malaysia and Singapore does not mean we are in popular demand in those countries.

For better or worse, Arsenal, Liverpool, United and Chelsea have firm control of Southeast Asia. We have a strong foothold in the States, and interests in the South African (and, by extension, sub-saharan African) and East Asian markets. So let's play to our strengths, and expand these footholds, as opposed to rooting around in a saturated market like SE Asia.

OK, but the markets you mention aren't really that lucrative.
Africa has no money. USA already have 3 sports they will spend money on ahead of saaacecer. Not sure where you me exactly with East Asia though. Out of interest, how well do you think Spurs would go down in the Middle East?

I don't like the push to market abroad but if it is a case of keeping up with the Joneses so be it. 92 professional clubs in England, and they manage to spread the love... plenty of room for us in SE Asia I reckon.

I think it is a poor marketing strategy by Levy. We used to go to SEA frequently before Levy became chairmain : Singapore 1995, Thailand 1991 and Malaysia/Indonesia 1979. Football has always been No.1 sports in SEA and English football has a large following. Almost all the PL matches are being telecast live in SEA over cable TVs. There are many VIPs here who are Spurs fans, including the former Malaysian King. Spurs used to be very popular here in the 1980s and early 1990s but not so much now. We can easily win back the fan base by just coming here. I am sure everyone would love to see a world class player like Bale. Anyway, would prefer us to go to places where we can increase our fan base instead of playing meaningless friendlies against teams like Swindon and Colchester.
 
Spurs went 1-0 up thanks to a goal from Gareth Bale Brentford equalised from Alan McGormack, and they went 2-1 up trough a penalty from Will Grigg.

Spurs put on Jermain Defoe at half time, He scored two goals So spurs went from 2-1 Down to win 3-2.

Call me old fashioned if you like but surely pre season games are to gain match fitness and try out formations? They rarely bear any indication as to how the team will perform in the coming season. Just take them for what they are.

Sounds a little promising. Would be nice if we could secure a new striker though, and soon, so they could get a full pre-season under their belt to bed-in.
I just worry too much if wont get sorted until Aug 31st.
 
From a Brentford fan:

Final score was 3-2 to Spurs. Bale scored first half but Bee's went in 2-1 up at HT following McCormack long strike and Grigg penalty following Caulker handball from Grigg's shot. Final score was 3-2 to Spurs with two 2nd half goals from Defoe. Most players got 45 mins. Not sure if Spurs lineup a few posts ago was accurate but mostly seems to follow what I was told.
