I have to say I know nothing about Dembele, but I've heard good things from pundits. I think Phil Thompson said the other day that he couldn't believe nobody had made a move for him this window he has been that good for Fulham

It must be the glass half empty in me.

Just as I always get the feeling that the opposition are going to score, during the mass defensive panic that inevitably accompanies the last few minutes of any close Spurs game, I'm dreading the inevitable "Dembele/Willian/Lloris signing hits snag" posting, as hope is crushed in transfer deadline injury time..

Re: 1060 pages and a striker, 1173 byebye Modric, Medical reports pg 1244

I think Dembele will be just what we need. At times our play looks so predictable- get the ball out wide to Lennon and Bale who due to their pace and skill are a real threat. However teams are wise to that and just make sure they deal with the cross... Ade never scored a header from open play last season I think.

With Dembele there is now a threat from the middle of the park as he can go past people from there similar to Gascoigne. Very hard to defend against as the threat is instant, and a central defender has to commit forward allowing space for the likes of Ade, Bale, Sig and Lennon to move into.

Modric is/was a great player for us and could collect the ball anywhere and keep it moving however he wasn't really that dangerous in a dribbling sense.

With two holding midfielders - Sandro and Parker and whoever else comes - i feel that Demebele will suit our system perfectly and. dare i say it, better than Modric

good observation, hope you're right

Who: The Goat
Where: SC
When: 29th August

We've settled on our targets but they're more "plan D" than some of us were hoping, will.he.isn't. Remember that this is D Levy though.

So we'd be prepared to spend £15m+ on Dembele but £20m is too much? For the right player I doubt it.....

I said 20m+ and will maintain that we will not (and most likely - should not) spend 25m on a player in our current financial model

Agree with that. The apparent change from Moutinho to Dembele is a clear sign of that, as is the Damiao stalemate

completely agree with this assessment. I would add that if modric was judged solely on away performances he would get nothing like adulation.
Home and away he played too deep rarely looking to overlap. Thus would be forced to play too many (unsucessful) long balls. he dribbled out of tight space well but rarely went on a run committing and beating defenders.....this is absolutely key. we need to create space- far too many balls are played into our strikers surrounded by 2/3 defenders..we need someone to front up and pull them out. demebele is a 6 foot quick cultured powerhouse who is looking to give and go or drive forward ....a huge loss to fulham is our gain........My personal worry is whether this sigurdsoon is the right man in the hole.

The Damiao message from Internacional is very clear (and painfully predictable at the same time) - our bid was too low. He is Brazil's starting striker, massive potential, and would not be sold for under 25m, imv - look at Oscar ffs

I think our recent sustainted 'success' in the Top 5 might have altered people's perception a little to the point of assuming we now 'deserve' 25m players when in fact - we are the very same Tottenham from 5-6 years back, with the same size stadium, higher wages and a few extra bob from TV

I mean this in the best possible way, but watching Dembele against Man U reminded of the player that Dalmat could have been. Just has that casual, arrogant way about him.

Rasiak alert.
Actually no, Rasiak was more plan Z. In fact I can't believe he was the part of any plan.

His biggest mistake there was joining that circus in the first place.

He's already said he's not going to change too much straight away after his past experiences at Chelsea, just because we're linked with buying and selling almost every player doesnt mean its happening.

Also, from what I can see he's only looking to change things in areas that need modifying and players to fit his system which is no problem at all....

I think he didn't make enough changes. He has a particular brand of football, and needs the right players for it. He didn't get them at Chelsea. He could well get them here, because Levy backs him.

Lennon is a talented player, I dare say a great player with 2 goalscoring options ahead of him when he's on the right of a 4-4-2 midfield, but when he has to chip in with goals in a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 he won't contribute enough, and we won't be successful because of it if he is a sure starter.

He's a really good player, but we need to let go if we can get someone better in. We shouldn't be too afraid of change.

Come on Spurs get it done before United get their sh*t together!

He does seem to be able to beat a man almost just by running past them

Personally I think Parker would struggle to get into AVB's team - he is not his 'type' of player per se - i.e. direct, fast, athletic, good passing ability, etc. Could be wrong - time will tell

I would agree with this and fans get carried away. However, i think this debate hinges whether you belive ENIC are in it for the long haul. If you do, you share their hope of a beuatiful future and shiny new stadium. However, its no secret that the club has been for sale for 3 years...ENIC's price being too high (the irony)- so this may be rather inconsistent and this may be the real reason they wont spend to that level on one player (even though we have just sold one for more and many other sales) as they are not interested in the risk such an outlay on one player brings.
