*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United ***

Last nights game was a fun watch. Such a shame the this evening will be ruined by Spurs.
If I don't see a hell bent determination and effort from the get go, I'm switching off.

Pretty sure the bolded text was the last words shared between Romero and Porro before the start of the Saudi Sportswashing Machine game.

Edit - Could be said for the whole team, don't want to be outed as having an unconscious bias against Hispanic players

Should’ve kept Conte then…. :D

No, not at all. it's just that in the context of this match and given it's Yanited I believe that this tactic affords us the best chance for a win. In anther situation, against another side I would suggest much more expansive football, but not now.

I'd be happy if we could just get Davies and Lenglet back so it isn't another cricket score!

Who knows though, It's been a strange season

United will no doubt be instructed to hit us hard right from the start. If I was their manager, I'd be telling them to apply as much pressure as possible, press EVERYTHING, and hope we crumble like we did against Saudi Sportswashing Machine.

I'm hoping Mason realises two things. Firstly, that we need to be safety first at the start. Not to invite pressure, but rather to start with defensive players in a defensive shape. I'd be happy to see a back 5 of Porro-Romero-Dier-Lenglet-Davies.

Secondly, that you're allowed to change tactics as the game goes on. Weather the storm then adjust accordingly. Take off Lenglet for an attacker. Sub a midfielder early if it's not working.

Both teams have plenty of skeletons jangling around in their closets. An early goal could well result in a flood, in either direction.

In this new, new caretaker manager environment I struggle to actually put a team down on paper that I'm happy with.

The defence is poor and doesn't particularly complement itself or have any obvious pairings that please me. I find the whole Dier/Sanchez axis invariably mediocre and neither name on the team sheet makes me happy. Davies and Lenglet don't annoy me but I can't say that I genuinely think either are top class.

The midfield upsets me and has done for years. It's Ill balanced and lacks the range of attributes necessary. Where is the creativity? Where is the specialist passer? Where is the player who can competently play 1 touch football? Without Bentancur and before Sarr fully matures we have a few too many clodgers and not enough class.

The forward line on paper seems decent but again lacks in some fairly obvious ways.

Is this just my general disillusionment or is it a true reflection of where Spurs are? Sadly I think it's the latter because even when we were getting the results under Conte I still felt these things to be the case. Now, sadly reality has caught up with my expectations. I could basically throw out the majority of the squad with no qualms. It's all just a bit...middling.

So yeah no team line up for me because no matter what I try to pick, I can't pick a side that I think is a good one. The only super obvious thing would be Forster back in goal. Otherwise, meh.

Other reason for optimism is that they're missing their first choice CBs, and also expended a lot of energy on Sunday over 120 mins, whereas we expended more or less zero energy over 90 mins.
I like your optimism, but don't do it to yourself. As much as United can very much be a shambles they at least at times appear to have energy and a plan aligned with some obvious top level talent and experience.

We don't know what Mason is going to try and do, but he needs to try and get a shape and gameplay into their legs and heads sharpish cos this United are quite good when they smell blood and we are right in the middle of our period! [emoji28]

I think I'd play a midfield 3 if I was him - PEH, Sarr and Skipp - mainly to try to get some control of the game. Whether thats a 4-3-3 with a questionable right back like Tanganga or a 3-5-2 I wouldnt be bothered, but at least we might not be under the cosh all the time which would give some cause for optimism

Mason speaks really well, and does not get sucked into the traps the the journos tried to lay out. Only focuses on what's coming, not was has happened before. Good!

A good positive talk there from Mason.
I would like to see him as the new Spurs Boss but only time will tell if he can make it.
I think he should be given a chance. Remember this is a very difficult time for him to come in and take over especially
regarding our weak defence!
Come on you Spurs...
