*** OMT TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR v Southampton ***

Thought Wanyama was really poor today, and that reverberated through the rest of the team. Winning less of our battles. Less sure of our passing. Commitment still good but I think there was some nervousness in some of the players today.

Funny, I thought Wanyama was very strong considering he was probably only passed fit late. Won a lot of balls deep, got kicked about and covered Tripper excellently a couple of times...

Interesting how we see games. I thought we did well today. Son has not been a regular 90 minute player this season, let alone a #9, so in many respects we did very very well to get 70 mins out of him. I thought Wanyama was strong today, despite not being 100%. If Janssen had started today, I am not sure we'd have won. People are talking about being under it in the second half, for me personally a major reason we couldn't quite dig out was Dembele. For all his possession he simply slows us down, and what will it take for him to have a dig sometimes? By not pulling the trigger he makes it easier to nullify the productivity of that possession. So frustrating because he could be such an incredible player. Winks was excellent when he came on. I thought this was a strong win personally, and personally I never felt wholly uncomfortable.

Solid defensively, but quite a few poor passes and first touches. Pretty much went hiding when Southampton put us under pressure.

Tempo difference was so clear when Winks came on. First situation instead of taking a safe touch looking to set up a physical duel with the nearest player he was oriented and took a perfect touch into space to up our tempo and exploit the space that was there.

Dembele and Wanyama helped make us solid in the last 15 though.

Dembele needs to see a hypnotist or psychoanalyst to overcome his shooting phobia.
I agree.
He's a powerful enough player. He has a strong enough shot if he ever uses it.
Also with his strength he should be making more runs into the penalty area.
This is what we need from him.
He could have defences at sixies and sevens with more bottle!
Come on Dembele...step it up."......."................and put that bloody ball
In the onion bag .

What happened? After the second goal we just stopped. Lloris will never be absolutely top drawer as a keeper because he regularly has games like this where he loses his nerve. Looked like an accident waiting to happen all day. Davies, sorry, not up to it. He panicked and they should have had a stone wall penalty. Apart from Eriksen's running, there wasn't much to be happy with in todays performance, apart from the fact that we won. I hope Poch really reves them up after the game.

I think the Davies penalty is moot.

In the move leading up to it their guy was about two yards offside so the game should have stopped then.

Best player for us today and does so much work which assists towards the holy trinity that is Kane, Alli and Eriksen.

If you look at the stats of other clubs midfielders, they are well ahead of us. We are lacking behind in goals from this area. We must move forward in this area if we are to be a more comprehensive football team!

Good result today, watched the 2nd half with my dad. He basically thinks the world is ending unless every player is perfect, but I told him that we can't win every game 4-0! Sometimes, it's enough to take chances when you are on top in the game and for the periods you ain't, just got to ride it out and get the result. We did that, very happy.

Chelsea aside, excellent results for us this weekend.

I thought he had a decent first half and like most of the midfield had a dodgy second. Maybe the caution hampered him.

The second half felt long and drawn out but in reality once they scored they did very liitle to test Hugo. defensively we got it spot on - Long may have electric pace but it comes at the expense of poorly timed runs which constantly allowed us to catch him offside and thus to slow down play.

Sometimes you have to take stock and realise that for whatever reason things aren't working out going forwards so instead have to manage the game as well as possible which I feel we did. Yes, it was frustrating how often we gave away possession but this was generally in the final third where there is less risk and in Wanyama the crucial space was invariably covered.

This sort of win will only build confidence that we are able to win games in different ways.
