The Other Clubs Transfer Rumours and News Thread

Lee Clark has warned the Premier League vultures it will take more than £6million to land Jack Butland.

Liverpool and Everton lead the chase for Birmingham’s England goalkeeper, for whom they rejected a £6m bid from Southampton in the summer.

Manager Clark said: “By the time the window opens he’ll have played 25 or so *Championship games.

“We would be looking for an even more substantial figure than we were offered in the summer – even though I certainly don’t want it to come to that.”

Clark wants to keep the 19-year-old but his hand may be forced if Blues fail to be taken over.

He added: “Ultimately, it’s down to the board. He’s the future and the type of player I’d rather build my team around.”

Shanghai Shenhua have confirmed talks are taking place with Nicolas Anelka regarding an agreement to cancel the striker's contract.

Anelka joined Shanghai from Chelsea in the last January transfer window, but has struggled to make an impression in Chinese football.

He was joined in the Far East by former team-mate Didier Drogba after the Ivorian decided to leave Stamford Bridge after helping the Blues to win the Champions League.

However, Shanghai could only finish ninth in the Super League and, after scoring just three goals, Anelka is now in talks to leave the club.

"The discussion is between the club and himself, I don't know about the specific details," said Shanghai spokesman Ma Yue.

"But so far we haven't got the final result."

Reports are suggesting that Anelka is prepared to give up the final year of his contract on the proviso that Shanghai will grant him a free transfer.

The 33-year-old has been strongly linked with a return to the Premier League, with Queens Park Rangers and West Ham United both reported to be considering an offer.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson says there is no value in the January window and has ruled out new signings

So only a couple of new players then.

Isn't this pretty standard for Ferguson?

Do they normally buy a lot of players in January?

I remember their two big January signings being Vidic and Evra and both struggled terribly in their first half season to the point of ridicule before later proving themselves as excellent signings. Can't remember Ferguson doing a lot of business in January after that.

Thomas Ince is prepared to sit tight at Blackpool and run down his contract if the Championship club fail to agree a fee with Liverpool.

Ince, 20, believed the deal with Brendan Rodgers' side was almost done, but there is hitch over the price.

The England Under 21 winger's contract at Bloomfield Road is up at the end of the season and an FA tribunal would have to set the fee.

Blackpool want £6m for Ince, but Liverpool are offering substantially less for a player they released 18 months ago.

Liverpool still have a 30 per cent sell-on clause in Ince's contract, but the Blackpool wideman is determined to return to Anfield.

He has scored 13 times for Michael Appleton's side and has contributed 15 assists from his position on the wing.

Blackpool are already in dialogue with Liverpool about the January move, but it is being held up by the Tangerines' playing hardball.

Rodgers, who is short of attacking options because of Andy Carroll's loan move to West Ham and the long-term injury to Fabio Borini, needs the deal done in the transfer window.

He could wait for his contract to run out and Liverpool would have to pay Blackpool a development fee set in a tribunal.

Really? Even though he's a Liverpool youth product, didn't join Blackpool until 5 months short of his 20th birthday and has been with them for less than 18 months?

Blackpool already paid Liverpool for their part in his development...

Blackpool already paid Liverpool for their part in his development...

Fair enough.

Given the amount of his development that has been done at Blackpool, however, I can't believe that the development fee will be all that much.

Certainly, it ought to be considerably less than the £6 million Blackpool are demanding, I'd have thought.
