And the award for most patronising post 2024 goes to.....

You're throwing around woke gen z terminology to a bunch of footy fans who via the interweb have known each other long enough to feel comfortable we don't have any raging XXXphobes in our midst. We do have a tamed sociopath called Gutterboy, but that aside we're an easy going bunch of Tottenham supporters.

How about dialling it back a touch?
It is a bit early in 2024 to be giving out the awards. Just saying.

Maybe I should let sleeping dogs lie

Since 4 at the back came in in the 60s, 5 and 6 have been the CBs, 4 and 8 the CMs.

I agree it's not about shirts per se, it's more people calling DMs a #6, rather than a #4 that grates.

I cant see the point of numbers, as I understand it they were used to identify players to spectators, now with their name on shirts they seem redundant. Over the last 30 years players have numbers which don't relate to positions, they now seem a gimmick for experts to use in their hot hair.

Don't get me started...it's definitely one of my biggest irritations with modern football (and I have a few!). Though us and Liverpool historically might have had a #5 in midfield too. pre squad numbers which obviously distorted this further Clough at Forest liked a #6 in midfield (Hodge or Keane) but it was really always #5 and #6 at the back.
