OMT ××××× TOTTENHAM HOTSPURS VS Villa ×××××××

and his team mates

Indeed...If ever you wanted to show kids that belief, desire and heart could yield rewards, the 60 seconds surrounding that free-kick are the perfect tool. He wanted it. He demanded the pressure. He refused to give it over to a more 'talented' set-piece specialist. And he got his reward. Wonderful.

quick question Dubai....

I remember you saying you wish our players hassled the ref and called for red cards after the city loss.

therefore were you impressed by Mason's antics? Lamela waving an imaginary card?

have to say I felt a little uncomfortable but there is no denying the red card moved things in our favour, havent seen that from spurs players in ages.....was that what you wanted?

Yes for years we have been the nice guys and its got us nowhere, kick up a fuss, cause some grief, stop being utter fannies, about time...

In defense of Capoue, our set up makes his job quite difficult, our 2 full backs push on and when we are hit on the counter, our wingers do not track back...at all. That leaves him with central mid runners to cover and opposition full backs and wingers often in 2 on 1 situations with our full backs who are not top defenders. On top of this, you have people wanting him to create and attack as well.

-----------------------Lloris

Naughton-----Fazio---------Verts---------Rose

-------------Mason---------Bentaleb

---Lamela---------Eriksen-------------Chadli

---------------------Kane

I'd like to see that next game. With Bentaleb and Mason together I think we would move the ball forwards much more quickly.
Move the ball forward with Bentaleb?
No, what it shows is what a poor decision it was to sell Hudd, for his lack of mobility, then we have Capoue and to a lesser extent Mason, not bothering to break into a jog as their players run by.
Hudd moved the ball quickly.

And just to add, certainly in the first half we surely played to make the game open by design. There was no effort to control it or the tempo as we have seen in previous years. Perhaps this was to draw out Villa and out fire them as their attack was perceived as weak. If we had played like that against a top team we would have been crushed.

There was also a bit of ref crowding for the Vertoghen challenge. I don't mind seeing a some of that. It unsettles the other team and makes the ref think twice. Why the **** not.

Not sure Kane did enough to warrant a start in the PL. Yet people will wet themselves if he does not. For me Ade and Soldado add more quality. Kane will come on, but there is no harm in him taking time, scoring in cup games and improving.

Disagree mate. You pick strikers to score goals.

Adebayor - 2
Soldado - 2
Kane - 9

Kane's done enough to show he can score in any competition... he's the striker in form. Soldado can always add quality, but is he anywhere near worth £26 million at the moment? HE needs to prove himself to get a starting place, not Kane.

Not really, he has to cover only his half as Mason is to cover the other.
He is just poor positionally. Lacks speed, will to track, and his passing is average.
Perhaps, he is so used to playing as a single DM that his positional sense is disorientated?

We bought really badly and got rid of players who had clear strengths, which POCH, if he is so good at coaching, should have been able to mould into his way of thinking.

As I said for as long as I can remember weve been the nice guys, it has got us absolutely nowhere, every other team has that twunt streak, we need to be nasty

Half the time we dont get the decisions and the breaks because we never question anything, hopefully today (well the last 25 mins) could be the start of us being up for it more

I'd just like to thank Villa for turning up the heat and putting some much needed temper into our team. Don't think we would have won if they've stayed calm.

Short version: yes, I was. Long version: we didn't really start getting aggressive until around the 60 minute mark, so I wouldn't call us particularly enthusiastic when it came to getting aggressive and playing on the edge. As far as I can recall, we were the same dopey team we'd been prior to today's game up until the Verts challenge near the halfway line. That moment was a turning point, imo: up until then, I think the players still treated Villa and the ref with a certain degree of respect, but when they saw the Villa players all rushing up to the ref to try and get Verts sent off for what was in the end a completely clean, innocent challenge...I think that's when the players finally woke up and stopped treating either the ref or Villa with respect that they didn't deserve.

I give the lads a lot of stick for being dim on the pitch and not very confident when standing up to the opposition, but credit to them (and the captain, Kaboul) for firstly recognizing the danger that was being posed by Villa's players rushing to the ref and both Lambert and Keane screaming red murder on the touchline, and secondly for reacting to it by first bunching up to the ref as quickly as Villa did (thus confusing him and ultimately probably saving Verts from a harsh red) and then by giving as good as they got and pressuring the ref by swarming him, yelling at him and generally keeping him off balance for the rest of the game. I think it was at that moment that the lads saw that no one would pay them the same kind of restrained respect that they'd been paying everyone else, and from that point onwards I was massively pleased with the way we harassed the ref and wound up Villa at every opportunity: and I was damn proud when I saw the sly head-nudge Mason pulled off to get Benteke sent off and thus turn the game in our favour.

We showed a bit of cynicism and spirit today, and probably made sure that Neil Swarbrick is a bit more hesitant when reffing us next time. Now, we've got to keep this going, and become a team no ref looks forward to refereeing.

Also, happy birthday mate! I had no idea, but enjoy your day and enjoy the birthday present Kane and co. gave you! ;)

I seriously can't see how anybody on here actually thinks that Kane shouldnt start, its baffling

agreed...I respect those of the opinion who dont want to rush him and destroy his confidence...

however I am of the opinion that his attitude IS exactly what we need....to be honest if we had lost I would be venting because he had not started Kane yet again! the we only want him to play because he is english excuse was very lame from poch.....his performances have merited first team starts, he should have started vs Saudi Sportswashing Machine and today so I hope the pressure does build on poch because I cant understand why he is not starting.....very frustrating.

Wha-what-what?

What?

Both Soldado and Adebayor with no Kane?

2 goals versus 22 goals?

Fux sake

What has Kane got to do to get in the team, kill Adebayor?

Kane Kane Kane Kane Kane Kane Kane Kane Kane Kane Kane Kane Kane Kane

ZOMG great post me, that is such an insightful and prescient post me, you should probably be carried through the halls of Glory on the shoulders of lesser men.

Yes I agree, you're right, great point.

Me too, Kane should definitely play, great points Bullet.

Me too, Geoff Shreeves

thanks for answering that mate...great stuff as always....

yep decent birthday.....thanks Mr Kane.

mate of mine made an interesting point, which is that perhaps Poch is playing the side he feels will win in cup competitions as those are the most direct route to a trophy? not sure i agree but worthy of discussion?

Can't see it
