James Maddison

He has always been a top player but i did not appreciate just how good he was when he played against us. So far he has been outstanding and once the team has played together more he will get even better.

Over the past few years there have been a number of very ill informed posters on this forum that have slagged off Maddison whenever he came up in conversation. They definitely did not want us to sign him ever, because he was some jack the lad who slagged off Bale when he, Maddison, was a teenager. Also for some stupid reason Maddison was also blamed for leading Dele astray, and off the straight and narrow. There silence has been deafening recently.

Sometimes, some Spurs fans talk total gash :D
HE’s TALKING TO YOU, HE’s TALKING TO YOOOU, GUTTER BOY, HE’S TALKING TO YOU!!!

I think Maddison didn't know he could be this good lol. He has always been smart with quick feet but under Ange he is able to apply himself in a sustained manner for the full game.

I think becoming Vice Captain has contributed to his significantly improved contribution rate and mentality.

We can see the difference when he goes off.
Now we need a young understudy to make sure we can keep in the team .

As far as I can see, he IS the difference. And like the mentioned to death Eriksen, he has the ability to let players around him express themselves. It is day and night making runs and moving around when you know you will receive the ball if in a good position. This is what I call creativity and what we have so sorely been lacking. Not dribbling and scoring wondergoals, but involve players around you in a creative fashion and intent.

But unlike Eriksen, Maddison is also willing and able to get stuck in. Early days and so on, but I think most can see that the potential is sky high if he can keep himself injury free.

Maddison works his socks off. You're very right, it's vital to our pressing and he's usually the one that's leading it.

It’s on a plate for Southgate here. Rashford wide left to stretch them, Maddison central. Both players in their best/club position.

Instead Southgate wedges Henderson central - often in an advanced slot, and Maddison higher up off the left (allbeit drifting and crowding the middle).
