Jake Livermore

Agree - it should be up to the club what they do.

Silly boy - disappointed.

I disagree. I think that it is right that the league punishes players who break either the law or league conduct rules. For a first offence, I think a six month ban would be appropriate with a far longer ban if he gets caught again.

Ridiculous rule. It's not as if coke is performance enhancing.

I agree with this, can see why a club should be entitled to sack a player for it but I don't think it should be punishable by any footballing authority.

And it won't be the end of his career. Players have been punished for drugs and maintained a pretty good career like Mutu and Edgar Davids (I'm sure there's others but can't think of any of the top of my head). If the players good enough then it shouldn't matter much at all.

Police friend of mine has had a few run ins with him. He comes from a comfortable background but is very
Arrogant and thinks he is the dogs cobblers. Very rude to police.

There is a reason some players get moved on despite showing promise and the ability to do a job. I think, sadly, he fell in with the wrong crowd. This goes for several of the players we've let go in recent seasons despite their talent. And, sadly, it is reflected in their performances. I am guessing that once Livermore knew he wasn't going to be a Spurs regular/player, he succumbed to the 'cliched footballer' life and took his eye off the ball. It should leave people appreciating the likes of Mason, Kane and Bentaleb even more.

It is really stupid for sportsmen like Livermore to get involved in drugs despite knowing the full implications. Never liked Livermore when he was at Spurs as he was too error-prone. But he should have made use of his chance at Hull. With him 25 now, not sure if he will be able to come back to football after his ban.

I think that if a player is caught, charged and found guilty by the police/courts then the league should punish them. I don't think it's the place of the league to go actively looking for traces of non performance enhancing drugs.

surely he can just pull a Merson, cry on telly, sign in to the betty ford for 6 weeks and get away with it?

FWIW, he was in number one son's year at Enfield Grammar, and both number one son and number two (who also went to Enfield Grammar) reckon he was pretty grounded, even though he was the school's sporting star (as a runner, IIRC, not a footballer).

My sons have seen him in Enfield a couple of times since leaving school (once in Tesco's, which is not an ironic name for a night club) and, again, reported no signs of arrogance.

Of course, people can change and behaviour towards old school mates is likely to be different to behaviour towards the police (might be cultural implications at play here), and whatever way you look at it, Jake has been plain dumb.

The FA used to have policy of keeping this stuff hidden, helping a player out with recovery and giving them a secret ban.

I had always heard very positive things about him when he was with us, especially with regards to attitude and hunger to play for us (a supporter as he was after all)...so I can only surmise that when he was sold, he sort of 'lost his way' a but maybe? I wonder of there's more to this? The boy looks to me like he is a gym rat! Again, maybe bad company has cost him dearly one time?

Wouldn't you say your drink had been spiked? Or you'd be hanging out with the wrong people and didn't know they'd put it in a drink - something mitigating. 24 sounds old, but what were you doing at that age? Your a kid and don't really know better.
