Ross Barkley

But he is there to be creative and people said Eriksen-sen-sen couldn't do defensive work only last season... yet he is key to instigating the press by making the first move. He learnt that from Poch

Barkleys decision making needs to improve but look at the asissts he has supplying some crap players

And winks and Onomah are centre midfielders. Winks is IMO dembeles replacement
They were wrong - Eriksen was doing a good job defensively.

I also find it interesting that he is obviously - to me - a potential Demebele replacement and yet there is so much opposition to the idea, so the debate is one Im enjoying.

I'm with you on that. And at anywhere around the £25m mark, taking the risk that he can become Dembele's replacement is fine. If he succeeds then he's a £50m player, if not you sell him to Stoke in 2-3 years for a similar price to what we buy him for. Dembele also made a very similar conversion

I think that £25m is toppy given his contract situation and he is injured. I suspect that the sticking point will be wages, he is meant to have turned down £100k at Everton and is looking for more than that. His potential doesn't warrant being our highest paid player.

He can sign for us for free on 1 February. But agree about wages.

Spot on! Alle, Eriksen and Toby are all way ahead of him

Agreed re being our highest paid player, though imagine he won't be far short at all. There was also something earlier about Demerai Gray looking for £100k per week...and apparently Aurier is on €100k pw so can imagine that we might have a few more extensions/renegotiations of existing players during the course of the season

Not officially. No English club is allowed to talk to him until his contract has expired.

I'm pretty sure he can sign a pre-contract with anyone from 1 February (with non-UK sides now), but obviously can't move until his contact expires (30 June)

The rule has always been clubs abroad when you have 6 months left (usually 1 January) and clubs in the same country when the contract has expired. Of course, everything will already be arranged with his agent long before that.

Wrong. Barkley could sign a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs from 1st Jan onwards. He cannot negotiate with another English club until his contract fully expires.

When he was underperforming - yes. Eriksen is very inconsistent, generally in the first half of seasons. He's been crap in 2 of our 3 games this season so far too. You've got to be objective and assess on performance, not reputation.

Not really, you have always called our Eriksen especially when you compered him to one of your favourities , the vastly over rated Mason

Wonder if he will run down his contract and join next season on an acceptable salary but hefty signing on fee instead of a transfer fee.

6' 2" apparently.

I reckon he's going to do an Odenwingie today

Get a taxi to our training ground (because he can't drive yet after his operation) and sit in the car park beeping the horn.

I think Barkley could do well under Poch - would be happy to see him come here. I always like watching him, big talent that just hasn't flourished or reached anywhere near his potential yet. Poch can help him! :)

And then Conte is re directing the taxi to Stamford Bridge or where ever they do their medicals...

Jamie Weir brings us up to date with the latest Spurs transfer news, and it looks like they will try and sign Ross Barkley before the window slams shut tonight.

“I’ve just heard from a very reliable source that Tottenham are still in contact with Everton’s Ross Barkley and they may be about to make a bid and, indeed, may even have already made a bid. If they manage to snatch two players from under Chelsea’s noses, then Spurs fans will be delighted.”
