Pav Contract Extention - Why is the Question ???

Selling Pav was a mistake

Yes,I know he is an absolutely brick player sometimes, but he scored some crucial goals for us.

It was him who scored 5-6 vital goals for us in the second part of the season when we finished 4th.
He does look like a league 2 player most of the times, but in matches like yesterday,we really could have used him in the second half.

This thread should not be about Pavlyuchenko's qualities or weaknesses(there are lots) ,but rather if you feel that he could have contributed something in our last 5-6 games.

To be honest if Pav had a run in the team he would have scored most of the chances we have created since Jan.

Its hard to say because we will never know, I lked the bloke, but in his last few apps he just didnt look interested, I'm not entirely sure he could have helped.
The mistakes were letting Corluka,Bassong and Pienaar go out on loan and not securing a more lethal and fitter striker than Saha in the Jan window

Selling pav was a mistake
Buying saha was a mistake
Loaning out corluka was a mistake
Not signing a back up for corluka was a mistake
Loaning out pienaar was a mistake
Loaning out bassong was a mistake
Signing nelsen was a mistake

Harry redknapp has seriously fudged up big time.

Wheeler dealer my arse.

Yup. Could certainly have done with Pav in those away games we have struggled in. His workrate and desire away from home would have seen us 3rd.

:^)

Selling Pav was a good bit of business and needed to be done. Not having a replacement lined up was a mistake.

Then it can't be seen as a good piece of business if no replacement lined up surely? As it is a business and getting into champions league was a priority to keep said business running well.

I'd have waited for the summer, much less risk involved especially as Pav would get us goals.

We got a good price for him (far more than he is worth) and he had wanted out for ages. Pav's zero effort would be f*ck all use in the rut we are in now. He is your classic Match of the Day player, scores some cracking goals and can look good in the highlights but does bugger all most of the time.

Levy probably saw the £ when he saw he was getting some money back on Pav and though great, we will sign a better striker, when in fact Pav is the level of striker that would only come to us.

If Pav played every prem game for us in a season I reckon he would score 15-18 goals a season for us.

But that's what some strikers do. Nothing for 80 mins but will score 1 or 2 goals in this 90 mins.

That is fine if you are set up to play with ten men for 9/10s of the game. Pav does not score enough for a team with top four ambitions to carry him for that amount of time.

You might use the same argument for Defoe. For me they're both of the same ilk and the difference is immediately noticeable when Ade plays, who perversely is the complete opposite to Pav and Defoe in that his overall contribution is good but his finishing is wayward. I guess forwards that do both are a rare breed.

Saha was a mistake. A transfer based on previous exploits not on his recent form. It might have paid off but it didn't. The January transfer window was an opportunity to consolidate our position, just like last year, but it was missed. And the ramifications this year will be so much worse than last. Our stock is falling like a stone.

Defoe and Pav are pretty much the same, their ability to strike a ball is up there with some of the best, but that is all they offer, if they don't get the ball supplied to them with the chance of a quick shift and shoot then they might aswell not be playing.

Him and Ade may have worked though? I just think he would have been a better option to have on the bench than Saha . That said he was unhappy and wanted to leave due to the Euros in the summer

Yeah, Pav had stopped trying a long time back and to sell him was the best thing to do.

Pav and Defoe are/were not the lone front man type. If you needed any more evidence of that (say you lived in cave for 5 years) then Defoe's performance nicely underlined it. It never worked before and it wasn't suddenly about to work against QPR.
