Pav Contract Extention - Why is the Question ???

Fact remains that Pav was a major contributor to our development and progress while he was here in the last 3 years, regardless of whether he was starting or playing a part coming from the bench. He leaves behind a very decent record. And Jordan has been quoted that he's a favourite in the dressing room with the rest of the Spurs players.

Haters will always hate.

Odd purchase ? Pavly was more like a panic buy. Levy wanted Arshavin and chased after him for the majority of the transfer window in 2008. I still remember the 200 plus page thread on Arshavin here. But Levy just simply refused to pay the extra fees to seal the deal. So, to hide the embarassment he went and signed another Russian, Pavly. I was annoyed and didn't like Pavly at first. But began to like him after he scored the injury time winner against Liverpool.

Funny thing is, I don't think we would have been much better off signing Arshavin. He hasn't exactly thrilled hearts and minds at A*****l.

Don't think we will ever know what impact Arshavin would have had for us. He just had a great Euro2008 and was desperate to join us or whoever wanted him. But no one came for him and he stayed in Russia, sulking. He went off the boil by the time Arsenal signed him in January. But he still had a good first season for them I think, scoring 4 goals against Liverpool.

Let me go or I'll leave for nothing: Pavlyuchenko's Spurs ultimatum sealed Moscow move
By Ashley Gray

Roman Pavlyuchenko warned Tottenham he would sit out the remaining 18 months of his contract and leave for nothing if they did not let him sign for Lokomotiv Moscow.

The Russia striker, who will arrive in Moscow for a medical before finalising an ?ú8million move, admitted that he gave Spurs the ultimatum because he feared for his chances of playing at Euro 2012.

Spurs recently unilaterally invoked an option to extend Pavlyuchenko's contract until the end of next season, which would have made the 30-year-old eligible for British citizenship.
'I explained that if they did not let me go now, when match practice for the European Championship is particularly important, then I would not consider a transfer in the summer,' he told Russian newspaper Sport-Express.

'I would have worked the last year of my contract and left free of charge - especially as there would have been the additional bonus of a residence permit in England.

'Naturally, no reasonable person would want to lose absolutely all his money on a player who joined the club for a lot of money.

'But, as I understand it, Tottenham still negotiated till the last moments of the English transfer window, trying to find the best option for themselves.

'Maybe (Tottenham chairman Daniel) Levy was hoping for some more offers from Europe and or English clubs - I don't know.'

It is understood that Pavlyuchenko, who cost ?ú13.8m when signed from Spartak Moscow in 2008, was at least offered to Saudi Sportswashing Machine, Queens Park Rangers and Everton in January.

Lokomotiv had tried to sign him for more than a year but had always been put off by the demands of Tottenham, who at one stage demanded they turn a profit on his sale.

Pavlyuchenko admits that he has some regrets over his Spurs career, saying: 'there is some disappointment from the fact that I didn't fully show myself 100 per cent.

He added: 'Alas, three months after my arrival, instead of Juande Ramos, (Harry) Redknapp came in, and we didn't hit it off from the start.'

The Russian also hit out at suggestions he did not commit himself fully during training. He said: 'This is total nonsense, which was in the press thanks to Redknapp, who somehow had to explain his decisions and who generally could never attend a training session and then declare that Pavlyuchenko worked badly there.

'No, I never skive and the reason for being out of favour lies in something else.'

Pavlyuchenko also admitted his family had been unsettled by the move away from London. And an emotional exit was compounded by the Spurs squad singing 'Super Pav' to him as a goodbye at Spurs Lodge training ground.

'You can't imagine how difficult it is to pull away my daughter, who is in the second year at a British school, already speaks well and has friends there.

'I don't think she quite understands yet and says, "Well, I have friends in Moscow".

'Larisa (his wife) cried a little. She really grew to love London, but there's nothing you can do.'

'It was sad to go to the training ground to say goodbye to the lads today. They gave me a great send-off - they even sang the "Super Pav" song.

'This part of my life, anyhow, has ended. But another begins - hopefully even more interesting.'

The striker's volatile spell in north London came to an end in suitably volatile fashion when he woke up on deadline day to stories of a training-ground bust-up with Spurs assistant boss Kevin Bond.

But he questioned the motives behind whoever leaked the story and insists the incident was blown out of proportion.

'There was no conflict,' he said. 'It was a normal working conversation - well, maybe a little more prickly than usual.

'But I didn't argue with the assistant coach. Already by the next training session everything was friendly and we spoke normally.'

Pavlyuchenko had wanted to talk about his future with his manager but appeared to be unaware of the trial at Southwark Crown Court, where Harry Redknapp denies tax evasion charges.

'In general I'm categorically opposed to events in the dressing room being put on public display,' he said. 'But, to my surprise, someone has already done it in this case, and in some muddled way.

'In fact, I just wanted to know where was our head coach, for whom I had some questions and whom was at training just once last week.

'And Bond said that he didn't know. That, briefly, was the essence of the conversation. We didn't swear - the rest is just gossip. I even read that we fought - people have a good imagination!'

Lokomotiv president Olga Smorodskaya, who had tried to sign Lukas Podolski from Cologne earlier in the window, said: 'I am very glad that we finally completed negotiations for Roman Pavlyuchenko.

'For us, this is a very good buy. I am grateful to Roman for the firmness of his decision to move to Lokomotiv. I am also grateful to the Spurs management, with whom there were two-and-a-half months of difficult negotiations, but nevertheless we came to a positive outcome.'

-----------------------------------------

Feel sad reading that. It was clear he was a popular player among the squad as they sang the Super Pav song to him. Also, he probably would have stayed on to fight for his place if not for Euro2012. Too bad he had to leave.

The disappointing thing for me is, I didn't really expect him to leave in this transfer window as there were not many rumours about him. I had expected him to leave in each of the previous transfer windows but he stayed on despite all the rumours.

Oh, dear

Clearly Arry never rated him - should have left earlier and re-spark his career

Sounds like a decent lad - could do a job in a slower league

Pav has made next to zero contribution to our improvement over the last three years. Our forward line went backwards when he joined (not solely his fault Berbatov was a massive loss and Pav no replacement) and flat lined all of the time that he was a first choice.

So he pushed his way out, you cant blame him really he was not Harry's cup of tea.

For those who thinks transfers are like on FM.

Thank the lord.

I will always love Pav for his cult status, his goals in the Carling Cup '09, his match-saving goals late in games, especially away to Young Boys which arguably saved our CL campaign when it looked in serious jeopardy, and all the marvellous bangers he has scored over the years. But he contributed so little to the team it was painful and I'm glad to see him gone. Thanks for the good times though Pav!

Transfers always take time when one side does not want to pay what the other is asking, then rakes it out in the press. Just like AC Milan and Tevez as well, what do they think the selling club is going to do? think to themselves "oh no, they wont pay what we want, lets sell him to them anyway as they are getting upset" like Barca and Fabregas as well.

The only time i was ever in favour of seeing Pav come on was when we were chasing a result with 10mins to go. I always felt he might pop up with something.

Other than that, as others have mentioned, his contribution over the last 12months has been nothing less than dreadful.

The lads giving him a send of with "Super Pav" pulls at the heart strings slightly until i remember Super Pav himself probably needed the lyrics translating because it seems he made very little effort to learn the language of his team mates despite his lengthy stay.

Having said all that his winning goal in the last seconds against Liverpool at the lane after they had battered us all game was joyous, and highly instrumental in our recovery that season so....Pav, Pav, not-quite-super-but-not-quite-awful-either Pav!!!!

His record was what, 42 in 113 games (may be slightly wrong there but that's what I remember from the OS)?
It's not too shabby. He scored important goals for us, winning goals, and would do really well in a less physical league.
Not that I feel sorry for him: he earns shed loads of cash and has a career which guarantees him employment, lucky bastard!!!!

Tbh despite badly wanting us to sign him when he moved to Arsenal, I think he is and has always been pretty brick. A player who flatters to deceive IMO, his first season with Arsenal was quite good but even in that 4 goal game he did absolutely fudge all. He got the ball about 6 times in the whole game, scored 2 ridiculously good goals and scored 2 very lucky ones as well, Benayoun completely outclassed him but the fact that he scored 4 times cemented his reputation until this season.

There's a reason why at 30 the only competitions of note that he's won are 1 UEFA Cup and 1 Russian League.

that must mean Ledley King is absolutely dogbrick with his League cup winners medal :|

The fact that hardly anyone knew about him pre 2007 and he's now regressed back again says enough really.

42 goals, 1 for every 3 games. we could have done much worse in the last 3 years, if pav wasn't there. who do you think would come? as it is even up to last week, we only managed to snag an overaged Saha! If we didn't make CL due to Pav's goals, I doubt we'd still have Modric or VDV today. Maybe not even Bale.
