General Transfer Rumour Discussion Thread

Liverpool doing some very good business. All the outfield players they've signed so far (Milner, Ings, Firmino) are known for their fierce work-rate and direct style of play. They would all have suited us perfectly, actually. :p It's a change from last summer, when some of their signings (Balotelli, Can) didn't really carry the same work ethic that their other buys did, although that fact only emerged in retrospect. They've sorted their bacl-up goalie position (Bogdan), and If they get Clyne too, I think they'll be very quietly confident heading into the new season.

Most posters on here were impressed with their transfer business last summer at the time. They have paid some massive wages to get those signings in; Ings is reportedly on £70k a week and Milner well over £100k.

I think that the interesting thing at Liverpool is that those signings will be coming into a dressing room that was not behind the manager at the end of last season. If that disliking of Rodgers runs deeper than Gerrard and Sterling, they could have problems.

I know, I was one of them. Hence my mentioning of the fact that their 2014/2015 buys only appear bad in retrospect. :)

This time, however, I think they're really intent on bringing in quiet, committed players like Milner and Ings. And as for the characters in their dressing room, save for Mario and Sterling, I don't think there are any left, really. Rodgers fought that battle, and won: it would be foolish of FSG to let the bitter losers of that fight linger on in the dressing room after that.

I've seen quotes from the horses mouth too.

Well I guess it all hinges on whether Utd and Arsenal have shown real interest or if that was all just internet chatter. The bookies have us 3rd in this three horse race, but again that could be based on nothing more than expectation rather than anything of real substance. You'd have to think he is top of Poch's wishlist so fingers crossed Daniel is in spending mood.

i dont think so. He knows that MS is too expensive for us now and the player has said he wants to join a CL team. Id say we are and have been looking elsewhere

Liverpool still dont have any first team coaches. Brenton is all alone. Very odd

The problem in the dressing room looked deeper than that in their last game of the season (and many before that). It is pretty clear that Rodgers and Gerrard fell out mid-season. Sterling will be off before next season but no one is going to take Balotelli off their hands and by his own standards, he has been quiet so far.

They say that last summer Rodgers only signed the players whose names began with L.

I dunno, neither Ings nor Milner would have overly interested me, in fact I dreaded signing Ings. Firmino is definitely worth a punt to be fair. I actually prefer their signings of last season - Balotelli no matter what anyone says, at 15m roughly or whatever the exact figure is, was a no brainer, he was a chance I would have loved to take. And Emre Can has serious ability, it probably didnt help him that Brendan decided to make him the Scouse O'Shea, playing wherever he needed a body in his first season. I guess its all what you look for. Ings and Milner are in my opinion very, very safe buys that you know will consistently put in the hard graft and not give up when you find yourself 2-0 down to Sammy Ameobi and Obertan...however not a huge amount more. Cheeky punt for Balo?!

He'd be a a great buy although the French press have linked us with most of Monaco's players now. He wasn't one of those players listed by the Monaco coach as being un-touchable. He'd put Lamela's position at risk I think.

Eriksen, Pritchard, Chadli, Lamela and this guy would probably be all we would need to cover the attacking three behind Kane. We'd still be a bit thin at the CF position though.

I see reports also of Clyne about to sign for Liverpool. They're shooting their load early.

Where's Glen Johnson gone? Has he found a new club yet?

Not that I want us to sign him... was just wondering :)

EDIT: Ergghh a quick google tells me he's linked with a return to the Spammers

Whatever happened to Flanagan?? He seemed like a really good prospect and then disappeared off the face of the earth.

So......those of you who follow football widely (or who play Football Manager).....what's this Ferreira Carrasco fella like? I know nothing about him. What style....out and out winger or wide forward? Strong? Skilful? Fast? Industrious? Would he be a good signing, you reckon?

Good good.

I've only seen Cillessen a couple of times and he looked decidedly shakey each time. Is he any good?
Not quite up to Lloris' standard, but still a good GK. Good shot stopper, and very good with both feet. A bit shaky in the area, and LVG obviously feels he's no good at saving penalties, RE last years WC

I always thought that was more mind games with the opposition rather than a condemnation of the keeper.
