**** Deadline Day ****

Ozil is an excellent buy for them and oushes them in front of us I think.

Having said that my one reservation has always been his stamina and in English football I think you need a great deal more stamina than in spanish football etc (it is a slower pace over there).

Overall he will do well.

Wrong reports in UK press. It's not #Zenit who offered #THFC to take Hulk on loan. It's Spurs who offered £10m to them. Spalletti refused.
Adebayor didn't want to move to Russia a couple of weeks ago but now he might have to as his options are limited.
#Zenit tried hard to get Lewandowski but failed. If they fail to get Yarmolenko they could have to take Adebayor. Yes, he's black but...
Spalletti might finally press and insist on signing a black player even if the club never did so in their history.

But is he a €50m upgrade to their team? He's already be replacing someone half decent as he plays in one of their strong positions. They could have improved A LOT more by spending £10m - £15m on a CB or £10m - £15m on a defensive midfielder

France football writer Matt Spiro: "PSG are hoping to open talks with Juan Mata with a view to a move to the French capital, report L'Equipe on their website. They also suggest the French champions have not yet given hope of signing Real Madrid playmaker Mesut Ozil, although Arsenal are favourites to sign the German.

"The French daily reported this morning that PSG would rather sign an attacking midfielder capable of playing wide, a role the versatile Mata is of course familiar with.

"If a high-profile player arrives at the Parc des Princes today, it may spark some frenzied late activity, with Argentinian midfielder Javier Pastore - jeered by his own fans on Saturday - among those liable to be sold."

Why was Pastore booed.. weren't we linked to him a few days back?

What color is Hulk then?

Does seem strange to me too.

**** can offer CL football. We can't. Simple as that I'm afraid.
RM upgrade Ozil to Bale. Ozil wants CL football somewhere else.
I reckon that if we were in the CL we'd have Ozil and WIllian now.
That said, I remain to be convinced that Lamela and Eriksen won't match them this season.

I wonder if there's a chance we might be in for Baines, if Utd can't agree a price and Coentrao isn't a goer.

What's in our favour is that we may be able to reach Everton's no doubt silly price, using a part exchange.

In Ekotto, Sigurdsson, Lennon, Townsend, Carroll, Defoe and Adebayor, we've got some pretty serious bargaining chips. We'd be willing to throw in a ready made and quality replacement for Baines, as well as giving them a big improvement on their strikers and/or some excellent midfield options.

I genuinely think they'd accept £5M + Ekotto and Defoe, and I think all players would be interested.

Champions League innit.

He didn't want to join them at first. But after being benched and Bale arriving i guess he realized hes not gonna get a lot of minutes there. And arsenals bid might be the only one accepted by Real since it was the highest. And Champions League ofc.

6 boring group stage game making the difference? Wouldn't think so.

I have spent the last week reading that Levy was so clever holding out the Bale deal so Arsenal wouldn't buy their player... yet they buy the best one available for 42m.

The one we needed as well as we haven't got anyone good on the ball.

Yep, especially if United get Fellaini, we might get Baines.

Would love that to happen.

Blimey...

Someone take Charlie's belt and laces off him, I'm worried about the old boy ;)

They rate Baines at 25 million. That would suggest Ekotto and Defoe are worth 10 million each, which I certainly don't think is the case.

I don't think Baines will move to anyone but a CL club. He's experienced non-CL life with Everton, all that's left is for him to win trophies and play in the CL. If he doesn't get that, he doesn't seem the type of player to force a move to us instead, and I get the feeling he'll happily stay at Everton for a few years yet.

Baines seems to be one of the last down-to-earth, loyal footballers in the game, and is a credit to both himself and Everton. I'd hate for him to lose that tag, even if it meant moving to us in disappointment at failing to get his United move.

Does seem strange to me too.

I think we would have also faced the problem that, when we said to them Bale was worth €100m, they would have said Ozil was worth €70m. Bale is vastly overpriced so far better for us to get cash rather than a vastly over-priced player in return

Yep, he is. He's a great buy for them despite their strength in that area for the same reason Lamela was a great signing for us even though we have sigg, holtby, Lennon, chadli and townsend who can play in the same position.

He's absolutely class, a huge upgrade on what they have and gives them more strength on the bench too with whoever they drop giving them options. He's also a pretty complete player - young enough to have a sell on value, yet proven in multiple leagues and coming into his prime (he's a similar age to bale I believe, but he has more than one good season behind him.

If 28 year old Soldado is worth 24m to us, and 21 year old Lamela is worth 30m, then Ozil is definitely worth 50m to them.

Damn.
