omt*** Tottenham Hotspur Vs Leeds United

I really believe we need to buy two creative players that can play in the middle of the park. I somehow feel that holtby won't be enough, we need to buy another player as well who has exceptional passing abilities. I say this because this season, bar 3 games, i can't seem to remember the team putting together a consistent passage of passing, for more than 3 minutes. It sickens me to see the players relying on Gung-ho runs from bale and lennon to carve out attacks, we have to add another dimension to our offensive play or at least learn how to pass the ball with speed and rotation.

We really fudged up last january by not strengthening and it cost us, I fear the exact same will happen again...

Im starting to honestly doubt Levy's ambition for the club

agree 100%. CL is vital this season. F**k the new stadium - it becomes a bit redundant if we have a second class team.

You can understand why we did it now too. Saha or Obika today, and it's really no contest. If we had Saha now our squad would be stronger.

To be fair though I don't think AVB really envisioned us playing with two up top, or even a 4-4-1-1. So that would explain why he isn't interested in another striker. If you only play one up top, then you only need three in the squad who can play that role and we have Ade, Defoe and Dempsey. It's a midfielder AVB needs for his plan to work.

I agree. I don't think the game would have been much different with Defoe on the pitch.

We had one of the best central midfield pairings in the league (and FA-cup for that matter) in Sandro and Dembele earlier in the season. Parker is adequate cover for Sandro, but we have no adequate cover for Dembele at all.

I hope, almost out of desperation, that not only will Holtby sign, but that he will be good enough in central midfield to be an option to Dembele and that he'll settle really quickly. None of those are sure things though and for me reason for concern. Us not being good enough without Dembele and also struggling when he's on the pitch, but not at his best is much more worrying than the striker situation.

Disagree, with a proper CF we would have been much threatening.
I saw bale and lennon exploded the flanks and made some decent crosses, but there was no one opened to receive it. Dempsey and Sig just dont have that kind of CF sense.

Small details make big differences. We needed our good goalkeeper today and we didnt play him. He sweeps everything around on the floor, and in the air. And he gives the defense confidence. It is no coincidence that they were all over the place today.

This guy is trying to blame Friedel for the defence playing poor...i really want to insult you but i don't want another ban.

well i watched second half in the pub don't know what i was thinking, why do we do it to ourselves? its like we like having people taking the tinkle out of us.:(

The theory you have presented is sound, but doesnt apply to today's game - when exactly would lloris have been able to sweep today?
Unless of course you are suggesting lloris had a starting position at 20yards.

We have the league and Europa to focus on. We don't have the squad to spread ourselves too thin. If we buy a striker we have push on and get a second wind. So far not bad this season. But its all to play for. Will we capitulate? Or kick on?

I have seen a lot of outstanding crosses from Bale in particular go unattacked through the area with Defoe, Ade, VdV etc on the pitch and I've seen us have distinctly average games going forward (like today) with those players on the pitch too.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how AVB can honestly believe that we don't need another striker. How can you have not 1 recognised striker in the squad today? Stoke had 3 on their bench yesterday!

Well,

I can say that I hope Parker and Friedel never never play for us again. Both of them have found their level, Parker outfought by Michael Brown. He can take a few notes out of Brown's book and realise that you don't have to run around everywhere to be defensive screen. His constant pushing forwards instead of Hudd or Dembele despite him not having the ability to play as well in more advanced positions demonstrates a lack of understanding of the game.

I can live with you not liking Parker, but what the fudge do you see in Huddelstone? Are you his dad or something? The guy is a fudging carthorse who despite everyone banging on about him having a great shot on him, has a similar goal record to Parker.

I really cannot see how Friedel can in any way be held responsible today. IF it was the first-choice defence and miscommunication, then perhaps. But it wasn't. Lots of changes. No, personally I thought both Verts and Caulker had poor games. Verts was better because, well, he IS better, but Caulker's performance was really really poor, lacking in concentration and authority. He's young, he will recover and he will be fine, but despite being a HUGE fan of his, I would be negligent if I didn't express how disappointing I found his play today. He was not the only one of course, indeed, I am not sure what the Hudd was doing? Can he not keep a ball any more? How many times did he try to loft it through? He looked sluggish and unplugged to me. Too many players just not up for the fight.

I did feel sorry for Sigurdsson, patently not comfortable in his role, and Dempsey (not an out and out striker)...the latter ended up scoring from his most obscure chance. Go figure.

Leeds were really good. Well drilled, well rehearsed, good comittment and Diouff (to be fair) was cracking. Two great finishes too. Good luck to them...

???

I very much doubt he thinks we don't need another striker! At worst, he is keeping counsel.

I agree with the guy that your quoting..
Friedal is 75% at fault for that goal.
Do you really thing Lloris would have given the striker that much time and space to pick out his spot to shoot? Lloris would have closed down the player and kept the target to a minimum.

Friedal fan boys are really starting to annoy me. I would actually say that Friedal should have deflected the second goal too by the way...

Not a fan boy, but no mention of Brads superb positioning for another chance when leeds were clear through again?

I trust that you, as a "Lloris fan boy", were equally critical of your hero when he failed to cover his near post against Man Utd?
