Hugo Lloris

It is a very, very tough decision. I think you're right in one sense, unequivocally so in fact. In another sense, IF he was signed on the assurances that he would be our #1 and if it was NOT explained that this might not be until next season, then I'd say AVB has placed himself in a pickle jar anyway. It's tough, because I agree with all you say in boldface, but if we look like we might lose Lloris in january because he was told one thing which hasn't transpired, then it becomes a different issue. I'd be inclined to make the decision myself, but absolutely agree it would leave you open to pot-shots if it all goes tits up, as well as giving you some squad management issues. Nice not being the manager!

I don't think any player worth their salt would discuss this during negotiations......

i know. Totally agreed with your reaction

the irony is that with that kind of criticism on someone people have the nerve to give an 8 for doing nothing more than a run of the mill prem level solid job.very odd logic to make a point that shots are directly at someone. almost as if he wants the shots to be in the top corner at 100 miles per hour before friedel can be given his dues.

am gonna have another look at that QPR goal

That's what made me laugh, and I said Friedel never would have been given a score like that for an identical performance but apparently it was because he's new and doesn't really know his team mates. So basically as long as Lloris doesn't throw the ball in the net he's an 8 out of ten for now, and Friedel being solid and making a few good saves per game is a 6 or 7 if lucky....

Friedel was not directly at fault for the QPR goal but he should have come for the original corner, if he catches it, goal doesnt happen, if he punches and gets enough on it, goal doesnt happy.

Basically Friedel plays the safety game, he knows if he doesnt come, he is less likely to make a mistake.

We have conceded a lot of goals like this in Brad's reign as number one.

Personally I think AVB is doing the correct man management in the situation but I think we would be better of with Lloris in the sticks, as he is one of the top 5 keepers in world football, Friedel is not.

would you rather he come out all the time or if he comes out unecessarily? you know, like Gomes does.

and as far as safety game goes , i think it breeds consistency IMO.

a guy who never likd coming of his line was paul robinson...that guy was stuck there....nearly permanently when his confidence was shot to pieces

Brad is going to retire in the short term and thats a fact. We currently have in our team one of the brighest young keepers in world football who could potentially do the job for 15 years. Him replacing Brad is inevitable, however if we delay this by a season just because Brad is still doing a good job and consequently Lloris gets tinkled off and leaves, that is only a bad outcome for us.

Of course he has a bit of arrogance (although much of this is media speculation), he is renound as an amazing young keeper and playing second fiddle at a team that don't even regularly challenge for honours. Find me any young footballer who is among the best in their position that wouldn't get a bit annoyed at not being on the pitch. Would you turn your nose up at Ronaldo or Hazard?

We would struggle to acquire another keeper of Lloris' undoubted quality, I just hope we don't mishandle this situation.

Even if he doesn;t play until January, once he does play and establishes himslef all will be forgotten.

Anyone advocating Brad being dropped obviously has never managed a team and has ZERO business/real world experience.

Glad to see Brad come out and defend himself against the utter clown Barthez as well.

Exactly. People have no awareness of the potential effect of managing this poorly beyond what happens on the pitch.

If i was AVB, i'd currently be thinking......5 uefa games, 2/3 lge cup games and then the busy xmas period......so 8 games guaranteed (in 3 months) for Lloris then the busy xmas time to squeeze him into some prem action. If Lloris shines he keeps the shirt and Brad can jump into the Cup games.

Brad will jump ship in January - guaranteed

He needs to play at this age to be able to keep his form. Plus he has quite a bit to offer elsewhere

Friedel is 41, has had a very very very long and distinguished career, he is into the last year of his contract at Spurs, I really dont see why its such a problem to let Lloris take the number 1 spot now and Brad can decide in Jan if he wants to stay or find another club

Lloris is our future and he is the one we have to take care of

And brick on a guy who hasn't put a foot wrong? Damaging morale and sending a terrible message to the squad?

Classy.

its not bricking on him

he is 41, he's had a career at the top level longer than most, Lloris is in the middle of his career and has just transferred to a new club for a big sum of money. Would Friedel really be that upset at giving way to a younger guy?

Yes Brad hasnt put a foot wrong, and probably wont put a foot wrong till the end of the season, but does that mean Lloris has to simply stay on the bench till next season to make his Prem debut?

Im sorry but i cant feel sorry for a 41 year old guy who has played as many games as he has at the top level. Brad's had a fantastic career. No need for him or anyone else to cry if Lloris is now given his opportunity to play football in the top league in England
