I should probably clarify for sure. Hindsight shows that he should've parted ways with Poch in the summer of 2019 post-CL Final (despite the fact the likes of me would've been harumphing). I think my greatest anger over the whole thing was that having worked so hard to bring it together again with Poch that summer, Levy promptly shat on it all. Easy to say our league position made it inevitable, but I just look at Liverpool and Klopp. I believe we'd have had a similar resurgent season under Poch (albeit covid changed everything)...

I hope he shows some good flashes so his reputation isn't trashed, then the cess pit that is Chelsea destroys itself.

Two points for me:
I.
He's always said he won't manage Barca because he loves Espanyol.
So he either doesn't have the kind of affinity for us that he has made out - which if so, fine, but he has to move to "really good manager" status in our history rather than "one of us"*
OR
He's realised that as lovely as that principle is, football is too cut throat for that.

II. His managerial reputation is all built upon taking teams from a poor position and punching above their weight. PSG is the exception - he didn't improve PSG.
The Chelsea squad has a lot of talent, but is really poorly balanced. It could easily go wrong if some ego's don't like the lack of game time.
Short term, a 6 year old would be able to get Chelsea playing better than they currently are.
I actually think he's taken the easy option.

*Compare with the charity match the other day with Redknapp, Defoe, Keane, Hudd, Sandro, Chimbonda, Rose etc being involved.

Hoddle, Graham, Jennings, Defoe etc fall into the second part of point I.
They know it's very difficult to stick to fan like club loyalties in football. Brilliant if you can, but you will miss out somewhere along the way.
 
I think Poch is a top manager and the ingredients are definitely there in terms of players for it to work at Chelsea. The cons though, 1) Chelsea fans are generally scumbags 2) Poch is so steeped in Spurs that any stumble and their fans will be on him. And we know how important club unity is for success.

So maybe from that point of view he's making a mistake. It'll be a hard watch though.

Biggest hurdle will be Bohley - navigate that issue and he's onto a winner. Chelsea will give him as many top young talents as he could ever want and like the young hungry players we had that bought in to him the players at Chelsea will do the same.

There's a difference with Espanyol. He played for them, iirc he was even club captain and then he managed them. It would be like Lloris or Mason eventually managing us. There's a different level of affinity.

Then you have to add that he has to manage "somewhere" if he's going to take his career forward he has to take a job and frankly there are lots of teams Spurs don't like so he can't avoid them all. The equivalent would really be the Arsenal job and I believe they have previously sounded him out but he hasn't gone there.

Finally we sacked him. Not the other way around, there's only so much loyalty he owes us when ultimately we had none for him when the going for tough.

Edit - It's official.

It's also a risk for Poch and taking out all the emotion from it, it'll be interesting to see if he can improve things there...

It also marks a change from the normal routine, Chelsea hiring one of our ex managers rather than the other way around.

Ah, I said all along that I couldn't blame him, he has a career to think of. And the head accepts that. The heart wonders how the f**k he could go to Chelsea. F**king Chelsea. Unless he brings them down from the inside, I'm not sure I could ever welcome him back with any enthusiasm.
 
He is like any other manager we have had now and i do not have a soft spot for him anymore. Go to Saudi Sportswashing Machine, City, Liverpool, United but don’t go to Chelsea. I won’t boo him or wish he does bad but I definitely won’t be cheering or singing for him when he comes back to the lane. Seems all ties have been cut.
