Antonio Conte - officially NOT the coach of THFC

And score immediately? No no no, what is this magic? I cannot believe this witchcraft of changing formation and flooding bodies forwards with determination.
Klopp out.
This is why these managers are out in front. They are playing to win all the time. Finding ways, even if it’s not the normal way. I won’t hear about the squad quality - he’s thrown Origi on ffs and shifted one extra upfield. But he did SOMETHING.

Seeing rumours that Porchettino is about to removed as PSG Coach. The board want him gone, and Conte has offered himself to them.

Probably nothing in it, but if this is actually true and it's been in the background for the past 7-10 days it could be a factor in recent performances.

Swap on the cards? Bizarre situation, as i repeat, if true

I vote twist.

I don't mind Conte, but I'd really love to see us as a swashbuckling possession-based team again.

I have not said much in recent weeks as I had reduced my watching Spurs once I noticed Conte's pattern with selection and formation. I personally do not see Conte as the solution or even a long term one. He has been less tactically adventurous with Spurs than his other jobs. He is also poor in Europe which is why I doubt that PSG are in for him. His agent is most likely seeking his next gig.

Yes he seems to put a higher value on league wins rather than cups. I suppose we shouldn’t have touched him with a barge pole.

I want him to stay. Will he, I don’t know.

The difficulty is that he only has a year left on his contract. Will we really fully back him over the summer if there is any truth in the PSG story?

I mean there’s no guarantee that they would even choose him even if the story were to be true. There are likely other candidates and PSG would likely want a manager who has enjoyed success in Europe competitions. For me Emery would be a more appropriate appointment for them given what he’s achieved with Villarreal over the past couple of seasons.

As for Conte. We’ve seen early signs of what can be achieved under him. We have seen the style of play and results we achieved with 7 wins out of the 9 league matches before Brighton. I feel as if the tactical misgivings are likely as our squad isn’t at it right now. If he doesn’t trust players, rightly or wrongly, then he won’t select them and good dealings over the summer will leave us in a much better position for next season.

I hope Levy talks with him, they decide the future path and if Conte wishes to stay then Levy extends his contract by ideally 2+ seasons.

Yeh, but after 7 years of drilling his principles into the side and seeing his players buy into them 100%. Now he's comfortable enough to tinker like that.

Back when he and Pep both started out, both were lambasted for being inflexible in their tactics even at the cost of results - Pep's passing out the back was famously savaged by all and sundry after they played us and our high press absolutely suffocated them.

He kept going with it - so did Klopp, even after some wildly inconsistent results early on.

There's something to be said for drilling players into systems at the beginning of your tenure - I don't take issue with Conte for that.

I do take issue with his refusal to change players *within* that system. Persisting with Emerson is costing us points, whatever you think of the wider 3-4-3 - at least change that part of it, please. Drop Emerson, play Lucas, play Bergwijn, hell, play Kulusevski at wing-back. Do *something*.

I absolutely adore Poch, and feel his story here is unfinished. I'd have him back tomorrow, and have stuck to this position since the day Levy made the biggest mistake of his time at Spurs by sacking him (and there have been hundreds from the mediocre cheapskate, so there's competition for that title).

But, if it happens, let no one be in doubt as to why it is.

It's because it would be the cheaper option compared to keeping, and crucially, *backing*, Conte.

If Conte leaves, Kane leaves. If Kane leaves, there's some dosh to throw to Poch and pretend that's backing him for a rebuild. Levy can get away with zero net spend and cover it up with us re-spending the Kane money.

Far more expensive is keeping Conte, keeping Kane, and spending actual money to reinforce them with quality players in every position - a summer of not just one, but two, maybe three Romero-level players (who come for Romero-level fees -about 50m all told, in Romero's case).

I know which option our glorious leader would prefer. And I won't lie, I'm one of those who will fall for his misdirection like a sucker if he did bring Poch back, just because I love the man more than I loathe Daniel Levy and Joe Lewis.

But I won't be in any doubts as to *why* we've done it - even in my happiness, I'll know why. And it wouldn't be good for the club longer-term, precisely because nothing will have changed in how we're actually run.

Our new manager who joined part way through the season being linked with an exit before the season has even finished? Usually we’d see this as a media narrative set to derail our end of season run in.

I find it hard to believe even if Conte would be interested in the PSG job that he would want to negatively impact our fight (I use the term loosely after the last 2 games!) for fourth. Even if he resigned the day after it would still be an achievement to pull that off and no doubt has a bonus attached to it.

If Levy has been courting Poch even under Conte than that just feels like a an act of self sabotage. I know love is blind but I don’t understand where the confidence that Poch is the man to oversee the rebuild of our squad given his record with transfers to date (unless we go down the road of success = Poch decision, failure = Levy decision£ Where does Paratici fit in to this potential reunion?

If Conte has decided the constraints or size of the challenge aren’t worth his suffering then Poch is probably the best way to placate fans in the short term, but for this to be the preferred option feels like a massive over reaction two two poor games during what has otherwise been a progressive tenure under Conte.

Maybe Poch + Paratici is the dream team? The best coach + the best DoF. Obviously it depends on how they gell. But they were seemingly happy to work together last summer, before PSG pulled the plug

I’ve been saying this from the moment he came in. We’re insisting on playing 2 players in supposed attacking positions that offer close to nothing going forward and it weakens the the centre of the midfield.

With no Doherty we should just play Davies LB and Royal RB (he’ll be ok there) and then add a body in midfield to stop the flow of play through there.
Reggie is a better LB than Davies but otherwise I'd agree with your idea.

Is keeping Kane the cheap option?
To replace him will cost serious money, and i don't think we will get the mega deal everyone thinks we will.
£75m tops, and i look at the squad and don't think that is enough.
