Transfer rumours - summer 2021 edition

I dunno fro. JM's spell I get the impression he had to work with and play some of them. I also felt that there was a bit of a mini revolt with some players. Perhaps the regime change with Paratici means a new broom that sweeps clean but I would have to see it to believe it.

I'd be convinced if just Dier Dele and winks were gone....

I think it would be mental to get rid of Dele. An incredible talent who has clearly buckled down and got himself fitter than ever before during the off season. A player that has previously shown he is easily at the level of a top 4 PL player (we don't have many of those left at the club) with the bonus of not taking up an overseas player spot.
Look at how well the player Mourinho picked as his spacegoat at Man Utd did once Man Utd did the right thing and sacked him.... There is no reason why Dele cannot do the same thing as Luke Shaw did and again show everyone what a good player they are.

I agree to an extent....however it also depends on what formation Nuno wants to play.

Dele really needs 4-2-3-1 or perhaps a 3-5-2 where you can play a no 10....and even then, you need the right players around him e.g. if he's the no 10 in a 4-2-3-1, then you need a creative player in the '3' and a pacey one too...

However he doesnt fit into a 4-3-3 as he's not a midfielder and playing him in the front 3 is really shoe-horning him in. He also doesn't fit in a 4-4-2, unless he's one of the CFs, in which case its more 4-5-1/4-2-3-1. He also doesnt fit in a 3-4-3

I struggle a bit with how we get GLC, Dele and Nombdele in the team....so either you need to accept that we'll be rotating enough and flexible with formations that they wont all start all the main games, or one would need to leave. Ideally its the former

You don't .. and it's the conversation we have had a few times

- Dele doesn't really demand a first 11 place right now based on recent performance with the added complexity of what system to accommodate him.
- Ideally he would get a run in the Europe games and domestic cups to force his way into contention
- Unfortunately players like Lucas often do much better against lesser opposition than Dele
- Circle continues

I've seen absolutely nothing from Lo Celso that suggests he is a better player than Dele in any midfield position. While Ndombele has shown that he has more talent than just about any player in the whole PL but less desire than a man who has been chemically castrated.

Don't see Dele playing for his national team, yet I see Lo Celso playing next to Messi and winning a cup, so we will have to disagree on that.

Lo Celso & Ndombele in PL games last season both showed (albeit not consistently enough) they are good enough for playing in our midfield. It's been a long time since Dele looked like a player that could own a spot in our midfield (vs. just a runner beyond Kane)

Is this a joke? We all recall that period when people felt Dele could play like Eriksen. It didn't work out. Lo Celso is a better creator than Dele. He is also a better passer and setpiece taker. Dele works very hard and has good skills but is a very different sort of player and definitely not capable of playing all roles in midfield.

I'm probably being overly optimistic, but I'd like to see a few matches this season before writing off Dele. It's got to be hard for a midfielder to perform in the middle of an attacking unit that looks like they've barely been introduced to each other. When Dele has some idea where his teammates will be running (or, more to the point, where they're trained to run), I hope we'll see him looking dangerous again.

My thoughts as well, to many on here see Alli as the player he was a couple years ago, since then he has hardly pulled up any trees ( and for those who blame Jose for that should remember he was poor under Poch at the end). And to compere him as good as Lo Celso in the posistion is wishful thinking.

I get it Alli has many fan boys but its been a long time since he has shown anything like he used to do and i do not see where he fits at this time.

I think that is a fair comment and lets hope he can prove those who think he is not good enough wrong. We shall see.

Don't think anyone is writing off Dele, but if you were to pick a midfield for us tomorrow, you would (based on last year) put Lo Celso, Ndombele & PEH in before Dele.

Dele can change that, but he's got to do it now (he's talking the right talk)

If anyone has been watching the pre season games you’d see Dele is getting his mojo back. Of course it’s only pre season but he’s definitely happier and playing with freedom. I think he’s going to have a big season for us….

I've watched all the preseason games and Lucas has been better than Dele by a reasonable distance, and half of this board thinks Lucas isn't good enough.

Again, I hope Dele can turn it around but he's some way off the Dele of two years ago.

I’m a fan of Lucas, I think he gets a rough ride on here and agree has looked great in pre season - he was also one of our best/most consistent players last season (I accept that’s not saying much:D)

As for Dele let’s be fair, he was played out of position for periods over the last couple of years and has had various issues to contend with both on the pitch and off of it. But he is smiling again, and when he feels free to do what he wants on the ball that’s when he’s at his best. You’re right there’s a way to go, but he looks determined to get there and with his ability I don’t doubt he will….

its like having a ferrari in central london during peak hours. a bicycle would be more productive.
great player dele may be - but i don't think he suits us anymore. i'd go on to speculate that he should go abroad to make full use of his talents.

Based on last year I'm not sure you'd pick either Ndombele or Lo Celso ahead of Dele. Lo Celso just doesn't really do much on the pitch, seems to me that he's not much good defensively and not much good in an attacking sense either. Maybe it was just that there was no role for him in our horrible, defensive, Mourinho ball team and Nuno will bring the best out in him. However I'm just not sure what his positive attributes are?

Ndombele.... all the skill in the world but terrible application and so incredibly weak positionally he makes problems for the rest of his midfield. It may be that we can accommodate Ndombele by giving him a free role as a number 10 type player but it will require the rest of the midfield to be very disciplined (and unless Ndombele changes his penchant to stop fancyingit once the opposition foul him 3 or 4 times then he's not worth his place in the team)

I think you need to be fair

- You can't say horrible man made Dele not shine but at the same time judge Lo Celso, Ndombele in the same team/tactics

All three of them will have opportunity to earn a first team spot under Nuno, my personal view is the front 6 will be some some combination of PEH, Skipp, Ndombele, Lo Celso, Bergwijn/Gil, Lucas, Kane & Son as it stands right now.
