Any dealing I've had in China have been above board, so the following is an educated guess.

I'd be very surprised if anyone (including representatives of HM govt) can just wander up to a factory in China and offer a bribe with good results.

The fear (and probably very real risk) of both parties ending up getting their brains reprogrammed by the state would put a stop to that.

Paying to get an order delivered faster is not really a bribe. I did it myself recently to ensure stock during Covid. You pay more to secure your order faster. I didn’t do it with an intermediary in another nation. I did it with someone who works directly for the factory/company producing the goods.

Paying a third person intermediary to expedite a process is literally ALWAYS asked whenever i take a compliance course in the City. Like, it's one of the key things they drive home with regards to bribery training in financial services.

I've admitted plenty of govt failings, this isn't it.

This doesn't sound like a push order, this sounds like a bribe. Not surprising considering everyone was paying for push orders.

It sounds like a con. Opportunism. And incompetence.

If it was a private company you’d quickly sack those who signed off tens of millions for no return. Yet in government you somehow excuse it and think it’s acceptable.

We did get a return. We got what we wanted quickly.

It was after the guy who was (probably) facilitating the bribes stopped being involved that things fell apart.

Did we? I recall there being massive delays with front line workers often unprotected.

Our elected muppets signed a deal with an opportunist company, who didn’t have PPE. This opportunist new company then went to China and did what our government should have done directly - negotiated with the factory, if necessary throwing cash at the issue to secure kit quickly.

Whichever way you cut it, it doesn’t look good. The virus was known about in January. Effective governance would mean checking preparedness in Jan/Feb/March. The UK was placing sketchy orders with intermediaries in June. But you’re happy with that kind of performance [emoji3]

If you ignore the fact that he sounds a bit like yer man from the IT Crowd. And his tendency to over-sensationalise a few things, he makes good points.

If the majority of hospitals were at <10% of intensive care beds used for Covid patients.
And if coronaviruses are seasonal and thus the flattening during the summer was due to seasonality rather than lockdown measures.
Doesn't that make sense to question the need to lockdown?

Yeah, he has brought some good science to the debate table; certainly raises some very pertinent questions and thinks the current lockdown in both Ireland and the UK are almost obscene when you look into the data and science being used to justify them.

It's definitely (only my opinion) bribery. That's why it went to brick when he got out.

Forgive me if I’m wrong, but afaik the vaccines (or at least the main one) won’t be giving a dose of the virus as per traditional vaccines (According to the CDC the virus hasn’t even been isolated yet...)

The mRNA vaccine will actually contain lung cells from an aborted fetus (containing specific anti-COVID genetics) that will bind to our DNA and provide increased genetic protection against severe symptoms from CV19. Essentially it’s GM humans making a deliberately designed antigen.

As a result, naturally generated immunity and vaccine effectiveness are separate issues (I.e the vaccine could be very effective even if natural immunity is low).

I’m no immunologist but from what I understand... the mRNA vaccines instruct our cells to temporarily produce the virus’ spike proteins which provokes a reaction from immune system. So, as in traditional vaccines, it’s hoped that memory T and B cells will provide enduring protection long after the antigens have gone and antibody levels have subsided.

Whilst I'm not religious I respect those who believe in their traditions and the dead may not have rights but they deserve respect nonetheless. How did an opportunist former jewelry designer "go to a factory and buy the worlds most indemand products"? Nonsense. With money, anyone with some chutzpa could push through a deal. With the full force of (a competent) UK government, we'd probably have done a better job direct.
