Coronavirus

Also the police have a huge job on their hands as they have to attend home deaths to rule out foul play.

My mate in the Met sent a screen shot of calls and 90% are people reporting people convening together, they turn them down because believe it or not there is bigger fish to fry beyond Covid-19 per say which includes domestic abuse and potential for people to knock off their partners to claim “they had a fever” those my mates words.

This was bought up in the briefing today. If I heard him correctly, I think Vallance said that the issue with this is that people can test negative during the incubation period. I think a period of about 5 days after infection was mentioned, but I wasn't paying full attention.
You often find that vaccines, treatments and tests are not 100%. The BCG vaccine which most of us would have been administered as Teens has an efficacy of between 70-80%. That’s still better than having no vaccine.

How the fcuk have they managed to get a situation in the UK where they can't count the most important figure in this whole Covid 19 debacle? The number of deaths really shouldn't be that hard to add up.

That'd be a result. clam'll worm out of it though, Boris wouldn't know what slogan to parrot next.

There's no way Boris will want to let Cummings go. But he should and I hope the media keep the pressure on.
I wonder what will come out in the next few days to distract attention away.

Given that Calderwood and Ferguson both had to go then it seems impossible that he can stay - although he’ll obviously try to brazen it out.

What he did was much worse than either of the above (taking a family he knew to be infected half way across the country); and his wife’s published account of his illness has been shown to be fictitious.

Thousands couldn’t see their dying relatives or attend their funerals, carers and nurses have been living apart from their families; meanwhile Dom thinks it’s fine to pop up to his parents’ house in Durham.

Apparently the trip also coincided with his mother’s birthday. That was a happy coincidence.

It'll be, he had a kid that needed care (guidelines were open to kids and complexities they bring), he went straight from home to car, and then a separate house on the farm, and handed over the child to parents without interacting.

Vaccines are very different to tests. We can live with a 70% effective vaccine as herd immunity begins to work anywhere above 60%.
Yes I understand that but in these circumstances you are unlikely to get a test that has 100%. The tests will have a relatively minute margin of error

If that's tge age groups down the right hand side then that's a really desperately bad graph.

0-14
15-44
44-65
65-75

Whats the rational for those age groupings?
The obvious one is to fit a narrative, I can see no other.

Yeah. He should have done ten year cohorts.

The narrative being that for those over 45 the shape and scale of excess deaths is consistent.

Or, our Covid outbreak increased probability of death a notch for all in that larger group to more or less the same degree.

Beards.

That's the reason twice as many men get Covid 19 than women.

Germ factories.

I'm not even a scientist.

Shave it off, save your life.

Thank me later.

Interesting. As an alternative and completely made up view point by a non scientist, the fact that beards are such a hive of germs etc, may give some form of protection against covid-19 in the same way that if you kill 99.9 percent of germs that 0.1 percent becomes extremely powerful as all the competition is gone.

Can someone with a more scientific mind comment on each of these viewpoints, so men up and down the country can decide if they should shave their beards off.

I can only speak from experience. I don't have a beard and I have never had Coronavirus. My son doesn't have a beard and he has never had Coronavirus.

100% success from a small, but important, sample.

I have Tweeted Mr Trump and am eagerly awaiting his support.

Shave off your beard, drink bleach, stay safe.

I think that makes a catchy slogan going forward in the UK.

Boris isnt going to last till the next election

I cant see how cummings stays - if he does the list of MPs/Cabinet members against him will grow - Gove lurking in the darkness with a Knife as I type

telling the mail has gone in hard on cummings this morning.

Its difficult to argue against a 100% success rate.
