World Cup 2018 Quarter Finals

Depends what you want from a footballer.

I prefer Modric to Parker, Pirlo to Henderson. I value intelligence, understanding and skill over running, heart, sliding tackles and all that other stuff the less thinky end of our press loves.

The bottom of midfield should be the very fulcrum of a team's play, the source of everything going forward and where the style, tempo and direction of play is dictated.

Henderson runs a lot.

And today he removed passing options for the opposition with his positioning, harried them into rushed decision-making with his pressing and amazingly made some less-than-simple passes to his team-mates that they didn't really capitalise upon - but that wasn't his fault. And there was also the standard tackles and running about and chest-beating which is a huge part of his game. But apparently blinds you to seeing anything else.

He ran about a bit.

Could not agree more, sadly there are a few who can not get past there hatred of anything Liverpool to have a unbiased vision.
It's got nothing to do with club football. I don't dislike either of the Manchester Clubs but Sterling and Lingard have been gash too.

Was allowed to go in early at work so could stop and watch the game. Was easy really wasn't it? Then again Pickford did have to make some good saves. England played like Italy today! Two games from being World Cup winners, led by a Spurs great!

I've heard it mentioned a few times in passing about rumours regarding the Russian squad.
What is that about? Drugs?

Sterling is the most frustrating player. He makes good runs, is a nuisance for the opposition, finds space for himself - then just doesn’t seem to know what to do next. Either makes the wrong decision or dithers so that the right option is no longer there.
Yet at City he scored what - 20 goals this past season? He’s clearly not useless but either it’s not clicking with England or he is truly shot for confidence. I think the rest of the team really want him to score. But it’s not happening so maybe the SF is the time for Southgate to drop him and give Rashford a start.

I read that something like 90% of his goals come when city had been 2 goals up on the opposition.

Don’t think that’s true as he scored a lot of winners and important goals

What is different is he has more competition and he also has a lot less touches. He has less time and it’s more instinctive

Great players create time and lesser players need time

Watching Modric as I read that comment.
