Malcom

One is 25 and the other is 20, I think the younger player has a lot of potential.

We might want him now but if the selling club are not willing to let him go now it would make sense to do the next best thing

Wow I didn't realise Lucas is still only 25, he seems to have been around for ages

If it's true about Malcolm then I would still bring in Lucas even if it's on loan. We need as much pace and trickery up front as possible. Look at our rivals.

I'm probably wrong about this, but I still think there's a player there, especially if he was managed by someone like Poch. Think it all could have been so different if he'd chosen us, but it is what it is....

Poch has already failed with two bright young French wingers, Soldado, Ade, VJ and Sissoko. The man is not a magician for all players.

Crucial to get them in early so they learn to adapt to the rigours of the PL. Lacazette is apparently reeling from the constant physical toll he faces at Arsenal and look at how Morata has dropped off the past month or two. I think it's as much a mental process as a physical one. The younger they begin to cope, the easier it becomes to survive, then thrive.

What about Stambouli? N’Jie? Even N’Koudou? Some allude to any player being five times the player if coached under Poch which is a load of nonsense. His methods work on some and not others, just like any other coach....

Definitely the case that you have to be the right type of character to succeed under Poch - nothing wrong with that of course but he isnt a magician who can turn water in to wine. If you buy in to his approach and have the talent to back it up then you will go far with him, otherwise probably not...

Why does the nationality matter and aren't all youth signings a punt no matter who the manager is?

I forgot to mention those players. Here is my view: ALL were on 'a scouting list' but likely as third or fourth choices. Stambouli? Yes, did not work out. N'Jie? Appeared to have the talent but not the personality, ditto N'Koudou. I think what has been learnt is that if a player is to come in, they have to tick many boxes for Poch. We have seen less 'scatter-gun-third-choice' signings recently, and I believe Janssen heralded the final change. I agree with your final line, the key is to make sure we sign players who adhere to all facets of his model IMO. So - some say he FAILED I say "they didn't work out"...of all the players who have moved on, N'Jie and Janssen remain the two biggest disappointments as each had the tools IMO but obviously lacked a key mental component to make it all work. I think he CAN improve "all players" but they have to be ready to do what he says.

Agreed mate. Just see this comment ‘under Poch he would be brilliant’etc as if it’s some sort of given he betters players, and the evidence is there it’s not as simple as that....

Agree, and the Jansen one still bothers me. He’s young and showed enough to me that he would succeed despite lack of goals he kept going and kept showing for the ball and didn’t hide which tells me a lot. And I don’t think having Llorente has made us any better off. Oh well....
