What is our best X1?

Lloris
Walker - x - x - x
Lennon - Sandro - Eriksen - Townsend
Soldado - Adebayor

x = i have no idea

I don't think anyone knows. Places are up for grabs. Central midfield and central defensive look unsure. With some unsure of Lennon's long term ability. How we are at the end of the season without a clear idea of our beset XI encapsulates our problems this year. Too many new players and no experienced manager to bed them into an effective unit quickly.

Now, will we have a manager who gets a pre season to settle the team?

Assou-ekotto, carroll and holtby available for selection?

would be interested on who would be on the bench as well..

Based on raw footballing ability

Lloris

Walker, Kaboul, Verts, Rose

Sandro, Dembele

Lamela, Paulinho, Eriksen

Soldado

If it was Fulham at home

-------------Lloris------------
Walker Dawson Vertonghen BAE
--------Bentaleb Eriksen-------
Lamela -------------------Chadli
------- Soldado Adebayor

Assuming everyone is fit with the current squad:

Lloris
Walker Chiriches Vertonghen Fryers
Sandro Dembele
Lennon Eriksen Chadli
Ade

In the future I would hope that Lamela would take Lennons place and Soldado comes good to repl

If you asked me to make a team from what we had I'd go with

-----------Lloris------------
Walker--Kabs--Verts----Rose
----------Bentaleb----------
-----Eriksen--Dembele-------
Lennon-----Ade-------Chadli

I think that that midfield three would move the ball around well enough and we would be able to release Eriksen and Chadli into space in front of other teams defences. The only issue is that defensively I think that could fall apart with Bentaleb not being great at covering his back four. Offensively though I'd expect it to work quite nicely with Bentaleb's crisp distribution skills keeping the ball moving.

Best 11 that we currently have in my mind is as follows.

Lloris
Walker Chiriches Verts Rose

Lamela Sandro Dembele Eriksen
Soldado
Ade
I think lennon does more defensive work then Lamela but we have barely seen Lamela play but it is clear how much talent he has. Chiriches was clearly injured in his last match but is obviously better then dawson, I would plump for Soldado behind ade as he looks great in the link up not so great in finishing.

I would look for upgrades at left back and an extra centre half, a play maker midfielder and a new striker, but think a new coach could get a team like this playing well.

say what?

Sandro is built for a defensive midfield role. He's a specialist and offers a bit of balance and steel in that midfield.

How many players come straight from the Brazilian league and adjust immediately to English football? Being in mind also that he's joined a disjointed mess of new players and a dramatic change of management. Paulinho is clearly an excellent footballer and if he can adapt then he'll become an excellent player for us.

* assuming Lamela plays at his supposed level

Both their strengths are athleticism and that is why both have turned up in a physical league.
Any 17 year old from Barcelona's academy would have more footballing ability than either of them.

If Sandro had grown up in the US he could have made it as American Football player, I'm sure he's be a good rugby player too. He doesnt have any innate footballing abilty.

LLoris, Walker, Vert, Kaboul, Eriksen, Ade are all certain picks = 6 out of 11
LB = Rose as we have no other option
DM = Sandro by a mile and imo should start most games = 8 out of 11
Wide = Lennon now, hopefully Lamela when fit
CM = one of Paulinho/Bentaleb/Chadli (Chadli giving a option to go wide and Eriksen in) = 10 out of 11
2nd Striker = Soldado, if only one up front, cycle another midfielder in, maybe allow Siggy. = 11 of 11

not as hard as our professional manager makes it seem.

--------------------Lloris------------------

Walker--------Kaboul----Vertonghen----Ekotto*

--------------Dembele---Holtby-------------

Lamela--------------Eriksen---------Townsend

--------------------Soldado---------------------

*Prefer a new left back, but Ekotto all day long over Rose.

Pretty hard to say considering the many factors that have restricted pretty much all our new signings finding any type of form this season. For that reason my opinion on our best 11 changes pretty regularly, but at the moment i'd be interested in seeing the above.

The centre mid positions are the hardest to pick, i've chosen Holtby as i feel he has enough work-rate to possibly thrive in that position, he is also comfortable on the ball which is a trait we severely lack in that area. The transition from defence to attack really is poor. Bentalab is another candidate that could possibly fill that role, he'll improve significantly in a possession based side i reckon.

I'll clarify that by 'raw footballing ability' I meant taking out considerations like form, injuries, whether players have settled in etc. Purely looking at our squad on paper, their skills and how that would fit in a plausible, cohesive team.

So to that description Sandro is more suitable to playing as a defensive midfielder in the PL than a 17yr old Barcelona player :)

From today's lineup, I'll be disappointed to see any of the back four, Lennon or Kane starting the first game of next season. I certainly don't want to see Chadli as a CM and I can't really tolerate Paulinho in a two either.

Its clear that there is no real consensus. Maybe it would be better to list the players in categories:

First names on the team sheet. 1) Guaranteed starters.

2) Players who you think have the most promise and deserve to start, and why?

In addition you could add:

Players who you would want to keep for the squad.

Players who you think need to be moved on.
