Rating v Man C

Friedel 6 - saved some but thought he could've been better for first goal
Walker 6 - typical walker these days, some good some bad stuff
Gallas 6 - gone after 60 mins but a few critical blocks
Caulker 8 - MOM performance, especially after Gallas legs had gone
Vertonghen 7 - inspiring especially considering he is better at CB
Lennon 6 - good while it lasted, but not very good at link up play with the rest especially walker
Sandro 8 - yet another good performance...
Huddlestone 6 - another one whose legs went after 60 mins... thought he could have been braver to close down the man c players that led to their second and winning goal
Bale and Dempsey - 5 nothing memorable
Adebayor 8 - if he plays like this week in week out, we need 4-4-2
Dawson 6 - decent after especially long lay off
Defoe 6 - don't recall much of him; AVB was right to start Ade...

Freidel - 6 - dont blame him for either goal
Walker - 5 - pace got him out of bother once in teh first half but not the greatest game. Dont think he deserves some of the stick that he gets though; he's an international, 21 years old and will only improve - we need to stick with him otherwise he wont learn. Would cost us a fair price to get someone better
Gallas - 5 - showing his age
Caulker - 6
Vert - 6
Lennon - 4 - anonymous
Sandro - 8- MOTM
Thudd - 7- decent first half, quieter in teh second. Was exposed when they had 3 vs our 2 in CM
Bale - 5 - quiet, slightly less so though than Lennon
Dempsey - 4 - pointless
Ade - 7 - held the ball up well. Top player

AVB - 4 - thought his starting 11 was the right choice but the subs which he made were bizarre whilst the subs which he didnt make were inexplicable. (And before anyone says, I actually wanted AVB as manager). Firstly, when Walker got injured, why move Gallas to RB when you have a natural full back on the bench in Naughton? 35 year old Gallas at RB was just bizarre. Then when Lennon went off, he brought Naughton on to play RW, again just odd. Why not push Dempsey out wide and bring carroll or livermore or Siggy into the middle. However the biggest **** up which he made was when Man C changed to 3-5-2 then had 3 men in CM vs Sadnro and Thudd. Given DEmpsey was adding nothing, it was crying out for Carroll or Livermore to come into CM to balance up the numbers. It would have also given Lennon and Bale more freedom to push on. As it happened, we got completely overly-run in midfield and it was only a matter of time before they scored

J.V - 2. Constantly out of position, never put in a tackle, beaten every time. Caulker bailed him out time and again. Should have been subbed for Naughton.

Clint - 1. Mr Anonymous.

Friedel 6
Vertonghen 5
Caulker 6
Gallas 5
Walker 5
Bale 5
Sandro 7
Huddlestone 5
Dempsey 4
Lennon 5
Adebayor 6
Subs. Naughton 5,Dawson 5,Defoe 5

Mostly agree with all of this PW, but I would give Sandro an 8 and Adebayor a 7

AVB - 6, agreed with his substitutions, but we need Lloris between the sticks and a fit Ade in the 'Dempsey' role.

Agree with these. The worst three players were:

Lennon - doesnt stand in the right place to receive easy balls and doesnt do enough running off the ball. His link up play with Walker remains woeful. More work needed on training ground.
Dempsey - another pointless and aenimic display. Doesnt look at all happy in the role he is asked to play. Almost anonymous. Agree with others who say it is like playing with one short.
AVB - reasonable starting team, albeit a bit harsh on Defoe after his midweek hattrick. His lack of any forward progression continues to worry me as does the concession of goals in the last 10 minutes (AGAIN!). We were totally overrun in the second half - just like at OT. He appears to have no anwer to tactical changes by the opposition. Now getting very worried by his supposed tactical nous - and the football he is delivering (except Maribor) is turgid to watch.

Not sure any team will ever being crying out for Carroll or Livermore.

Agree with Pirate. Don't get the posters saying AVB had to take ADE off as he was tired and on a booking. The "tired" one in particular, what was the evidence? Seems to me he was still the best player we had at the time he was brought off. I don't think it was about being tired, I just think it is AVB's "thing" he replaced Defoe with Ade last week which had no effect. We are conceding too many late goals against good and weaker opposition AVB needs to sort this out and quickly. This has not been good so far.

We looked predictably jaded having had two days less to recover from our midweek game. Significant that Sandro was our stand out performer - he didn't play Thurs - whilst Bale and Lennon, both livewires against Maribor, were well below par

Professional footballers should be able to play twice a week. Adebayor played mid-week yet he looked fine today. We played 4-4-2 at home against Maribor, I'd of been disappointed if Lennon and Bale weren't livewires. We didn't either of them in the game today. Usually I am against rotating wingers but I was disappointed we didn't see Bale against Clichy and Lennon against a yellow carded Zabaleta at any stage of the game.

Friedel - 5 - A couple of good blocks when they shot straight at him, can't help but think a younger keeper would have had the reflexes to save Dzeko's goal

Walker - 4 - Poor, kept giving the ball away
Gallas - 4 - Really struggled with Aguero's movement, he is finished
Caulker - 5 - Good to see him score even if he got a bit lucky. Struggled a bit at the back though
Vertonghen - 5 - Good at first, but struggled against Maicon. Can't wait until we can move him back to CB

Lennon - 5 - Struggled to get into the game
Sandro - 9 - Outstanding. Kept us in it for a long time with some excellent tackling.
Huddlestone - 6 - Some good passes including an excellent set-piece in the first half for the goal, faded in the second.
Bale - 4 - Anonymous

Dempsey - 2 - His worst performance in a Tottenham shirt so far and that's really saying something. Can't believe he played 90 minutes.
Adebayor - 8 - Worked his arse off, his movement and physique were causing them lots of problems. Can't believe he was substituted.

Not fair to rate any of the subs as they didn't have much time on the pitch

Defoe looks at his sharpest and scores a hatrick on Thurs but is dropped on Sunday in favour of Dempsey, who's yet to have one good game this season.

WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY?

WHY?

You couldn't make it up.

Sandro and Adebayor looked great... the rest... not so.

We seriously lack in midfield. Dempsey... I mean...

At the very least, if AVB was adamant he only wanted one striker up front away to City (not unreasonable), he should have played Sigurdsson behind Adebayor. Now Sigurdsson has been a bit disappointing since joining, but he has at least shown flashes of brilliance, which Dempsey has not. I have also said since we re-signed Ade that we'll see the best of Sigurdsson playing off Ade in the role VdV played for us last season. We haven't seen them used together in this formation once yet.

Actually im of the opinion that if he is to go with one of the two then Dempsey has to be it. Dempsey can score a goal or two and has proved it a bit. Sig on the other hand - one good pass this season

Sig has scored as many goals as Dempsey this season with less playing time. And even if that one pass against Reading was the only one he has done (there have been more but I can't remember any specific examples), it's still one more chance created by Sig than Dempsey since they joined us.
