So much indeed. Not that it wasn't totally obvious before anyway, but the lie was well and truly given to that idea the year Spurs got into the CL and still struggled to attract the top players. Saying they want CL football for many of them is just a code. They aren't interested in CL football; they're interested in the money that the CL regulars tend to pay. Spurs, whether they're in or not, don't pay the wages so they don't interest the players. If there were £10m sponsorship deals on offer for televised keepy-uppy, every summer we'd be hearing about how this or that player can't go here or there to waste time playing, because all he wants is to be doing keepy-uppy.
 
Have City been spending magic beans then? the money comes from their owners/sponsors, a lot of Man Utd's comes from the same place.

And Man U got theirs in large part because of their on field success. Their football success bred money, with City it's the other way around.
