Europa League 2012-13 - QF: Basel (SUI)

Re: Europa League 2012-13 - Panathinaikos, Lazio, Maribor

Teams that are through to the knockout stages: Inter, Rubin Kazan, Lyon, Bayer Leverkusen, Metalist Kharkiv, Hannover, BATE Borisov, Dynamo Kiev.

Seeing as you get fudge all money for winning it, I think a CL place should be the least they could offer. Let's face it, the reason that the League Cup and Europa League are seen as a distraction to the club hierarchy is because there is no money. Maybe different reasons for the players and manager, but for the club it's all about the greenbacks.

Its ridiculous that you get more money for just being in the Champ League (even if you lose all the group games and bomb out early) than you get if you WIN the Europa!! Something clearly wrong there. Champ league spot and more money will make the competition a darn site more exciting

Re: Europa League 2012-13 - Panathinaikos, Lazio, Maribor

To the best of my knowledge these teams are through:

Group winners: Lyon, Metalist Kharkiv, Rubin Kazan, Fenerbache, Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk
Runners up: Sparta Praha, Bayer Leverkusen, Inter, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Napoli
CL rejects: Dynamo Kiev, Olympiakos, BATE Borisov
Undetermined: Hannover, Levante, Lazio, Genk, Bordeaux, Saudi Sportswashing Machine, Atletico Madrid, Viktoria Plzen

Group winners and the 4 best CL teams will be in one pot, the rest in the other.

Anzhi have qualified too.

As it currently stands the last 32 would be:

SEEDEDUNSEEDED
Anzhi Makhachkala (RUS)
Atletico Madrid (ESP)
Fenerbahce (TUR)
Bordeaux (FRA)

Steaua Bucuresti (ROM)
Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk (UKR)
Racing Genk (BEL)
Rubin Kazan (RUS)
Lyon (FRA)
Lazio (ITA)
Metalist Kharkiv (UKR)
Hannover (GER)

Chelsea (ENG)
CFR Cluj (ROM)
Celtic (SCO)
Olympiakos (GRE)
Liverpool (ENG)
Viktoria Plzen (CZE)
Borussia Monchengladbach (GER)
Saudi Sportswashing Machine (ENG)

Stuttgart (GER)
Napoli (ITA)
FC Basel (SUI)
Inter Milan (ITA)
Sparta Prague (CZE)

Tottenham Hotspur (ENG)
Bayer Leverkusen (GER)
Levante (ESP)
BATE Borisov (BLS)
Dynamo Kiev (UKR)

Zenit St. Petersburg (RUS)
Ajax (NED)

Teams in bold have definitely qualified.
Seeded teams play the 2nd leg at home. Teams can not be drawn against another team from the same country or the team that qualified from the same group.

Re: Europa League 2012-13 - Panathinaikos, Lazio, Maribor

Some tough trips if we qualify but finish 2nd. Potential for a bit of travelling. Favoured draws would be Racing Genk, Hanover or Bordeaux I would say

Genk or Hannover please. Celtic at a stretch.

Chelsea-Inter [-o<

Re: Europa League 2012-13 - Panathinaikos, Lazio, Maribor

does 2nd place mean you play a CL drop out ?

Draw rules

a) Clubs from the same association must not be drawn against each other,
b) The 12 group-winners and the 4 best third-ranked teams in the Champions League group stage are drawn against the 12 group runners-up and the remaining third-ranked teams in the Champions League group stage,
c) The winners and runners-up of the same group cannot be drawn against each other,
d) Group-winners and the 4 best third-ranked in the Champions League group stage play the return leg at home.

Re: Europa League 2012-13 - Panathinaikos, Lazio, Maribor

Would have preferred the 2nd leg at home should we progress, and I suppose there is still an outside chance, even a 2-0 for win for us would do if Lazio draw 0-0 or 1-1in Slovenia. GD is 2 which obv would be wiped out, head to head is level, as is goal scored (5 each)

Europa League semi-finalists to qualify for Champions League?

Federation President Giancarlo Abete confirms a plan to “return Serie A to 18 teams as soon as possible” and send Europa League semi-finalists into the Champions League.

There have been many clubs critical of the switch to 20 sides in the Italian top flight and it’s reported cutting down could save millions as well as increase competitiveness.

“I can say we all hope to return Serie A to 18 teams as soon as possible,” the FIGC President told RaiSport.

“We are also studying a plan with UEFA to reward the Europa League semi-finalists by giving them qualification for the next season’s Champions League.”

Apart from what happened before the game, how was the rest of the trip to Rome? Certainly sounded like you all made some noise in the ground
yeah was really good. The sights were nice and the climate was perfect. A few shisters about trying to con people but a lot of ciies are like that. Not many pubs about, though! Before the game we were shuttled to the ground in buses which was a great laugh , a lot of singing etc. Good trip, only marred by the cowardice of 40 or so Italians

Europa League semi-finalists to qualify for Champions League?

If that happens they'll have to have a look at the max number of teams allowed from one football association.
Can't have our situation from last season happen every year.
