He uses the Europa league as an excuse for the poor form in the league yet still put out strong squads in the league. He is now riding the misinterpretation of the whole “Always win a trophy in my second season” after moaning that the context was wrong after he said it.

He is a walking contradiction that uses excuses constantly. Yes we had lots of injuries but we still have a squad good enough to not lose 22 games in a season. The tactics are all wrong and he has been found out in the league. In the Europa we rode our luck and got away with it. It will not happen next season in the Champions league, we will get spanked every week.

To be honest, I took that comment with a pinch of salt. Basking in the glory of Wednesdays victory it's very easy to say "oh yeah, it was all a masterplan where I binned off the league to give us the best chance to win this." Would he have said that if we'd lost the game? Doubtful, he'd have been crucified.

You can see that he prioritised the EL from Frankfurt onwards, and rightly so. But from January? Nah.
Why on earth you're putting in quotes 'masterplan' when he never said that and no one has ever implied it was a masterplan. Just a logical thing to do that many posters on here even before January were saying we should be doing considering how fudged we were after all those injuries, hardly a stretch to think the club and management were thinking the same way.

You can choose not to believe it all you want, choose to believe that our first choice back 5 haven't featured in the league since December being purely coincidence and the fact we've been playing mish mash teams for the majority of 2025 just for a laugh. That doesn't mean what's happened on the pitch has all been acceptable but it's pretty obvious a decision was taken to prioritise the EL hence why early in the year everyone when everyone was asking why he wasn't sacked - well there is the answer....

The thing with the whole sacrificing the league for the cup thinking - even if we take it as a given that's what had to happen in order to win the cup - that's still a substantial amount of football to be played where players can be brought up to speed with the tactical set up - did it feel like we were using that time on the pitch for anything worthwhile in that regard?
Brilliant point @billyiddo this is the crux for me in the decision making. Has he shown he can adapt the system he wants to play to make it successful.

I don't particularly, but the post(s) i was responding to was from Tommy who was turning his nose up at Frank - i was trying in a roundabout way to highlight that he is wrong to do so

It’s not even about Frank himself — despite what I said. It’s the whole idea of replacing a proven winner — multiple times all over the world — with someone who’s doesn’t nothing more than a really good job at Brentford. It’s so laughably ‘the grass is always greener’ thinking.

My apologies, next time I'll use the exact quote to avoid offence. But whatever the actual wording was it has been used as a further justification of our horrific league form this calender year on top of the injury situation.

As I said, I think we all accept it was happening from Frankfurt onwards but before that he was still fielding strong teams (as much as the injuries would allow) in the league.

If I'm wrong, it wouldn't be the first time. But that's what I feel about it.

We were 12th before the AZ game. We weren’t good before that, but you don’t have to look very hard to work out why.

It’s only since the Europa League knockout games started that our position in the table really nosedived.

Proven winner all over the world. You can’t compare winning things at the A league , J league level to Premier league level.

It’s a different sport almost. Sorry it’s just nonsense.

Even winning things with Celtic should not see you given top jobs. That’s a lot closer to prem level than A league and J league.

We would not give the job to managers in step 2-3 of non league who win things on the regular.

There’s levels to this game. Europa league this year apart from a handful of sides was weak. When you look at it without the emotion of winning a cup.

Weren't Villa also in danger of getting relegated under Gerrard after he had just won the league in Scotland too? Completely different level of football

Yep he was dreadful in Prem.

Look at the football , the game. We are brick. No Europa league win changes that.

I think the bit I'm not getting is Ange's inability to get different combinations of players to work tactically in his line-ups. It was probably about mid-Feb when we were released from the injury and heavy fatigue period. We were beyond 18 months of him working with these players except a couple of newbies. Still though, we would field better elevens (on paper) than our opposition but mostly lose. We would actually field better elevens than most clubs in this league and at times look quite chaotic.

Ange has to get major breakthroughs in the PL environment in this area. There will never be a time where he doesn't have to rotate and tweak the system with the amount of games coming next season. If he stays, he absolutely needs to get his tactical strategy right so players can interchange. I'm even wondering whether he needs to find his own version of Jesús Pérez. A coach that is clearly better than him in the detail and will make him successful.

As you know, I've always had concerns about Ange's tactical ability as a Spurs manager. Winning the EL hasn't changed that.

Different sport? Do me a favour mate. How much of the J.League have you even watched?

Why do people bring out these comparisons like they mean anything? One bloke did one thing once and suddenly it's a sign of what Spurs should do?

How about Xavi? We could do an Evans-Houllier style double act?

Yea ok. It’s mediocre level of football. It’s not comparable to top tier European football.

As I say there’s levels to it and Ange is not at the top level. No matter what he won in Aus/ Japan.
