Dele Alli

Mountains and mole hills.

Yes, he made the most of the foul and yes, he stupidly started to throw himself to the ground before the actually contact (IMO), but that's still a penalty all day long. Because he anticipated the foul and started falling theatrically a little bit too soon, it's a talking point - and of course the pundits don't hesitate to go with the narrative of Dele Alli the serial cheater - but seriously; that's a penalty. All. Day. Long.

He was slightly lucky with that rash, early foul though, I've seen players sent off for less. That said, Burnley players continously tried to wind him up for a second yellow, and there were at least two clear fouls on Dele overlooked by the ref. I think they got away with a little too much rough play, and should've been penalised more.

But who cares, we won. :D

Agree 1OO%.

It seems, through the first half of the season, Poch has saved Dele's legs where he can, subbing him off early quite often. I think it will pay dividends and we'll get a strong 2nd half of the season from Dele.

They said on the commentary that he is a little ahead on last season stats wise.

Havent checked myself, but I think if its true its a positive that he can be off form and still contribute. Sounds good for when he finds form as well!

Having just watched a recording of the game it annoys me that week after week anyone can kick, push, pull, trip and generally mess about with Dele in the knowledge the refs will do nothing to stop it. I lost count of the number of times this season he has been clipped after he has passed the ball, and as soon as he does something the refs, fans and commentators jump on it. Sure I'm bias but it getting so obvious to any fair minded person.

He brought it upon himself by his own actions (diving, niggling fouls, nudging people, winding people up, talking to the ref etc).

Can’t agree, Lanzini did exactly the same and got punished - if you’re beginning to go to ground before any contact you’re diving. If he doesn’t get punished he’s got lucky....

I thought he was very good today. Positive, involved, direct, worked hard - I thought he played his part in a very good result.

Totally agree. He’s been a bit off the pace for a while - although I don’t think he has been as terrible as some make out. But today it seemed that something clicked for him and his involvement was much more productive, despite what he had to put up with from Burnley.

Would agree with all of that, especially the bit in bold and its something i posted about last season. Then i said he/Poch have got to get hold of his attitude because opposing players will see that he loses it and will set out to wind him up, and that is what is happening now.

But he ain’t falling for it and is learning on the job

He knows he is a target now and people don’t target the brick players

Was going to say exactly the same parklane1 but you beat me to it.

Have to say though that I thought he played much better after the burnley crowd started to have a real go at him (you're a vvanker, you're a vvanker etc.) Making a point and nice to see. Prior to that there were a couple of occasions where I thought he was coasting a bit but that may be me being harsh.

Overall though, it was an excellent team performance. That said we should have had eight were it not for us coming over all "Sissoko" in front of goal.

I can't dance with any of the above.

So we're all agreed Dele is having a poor season overall right? Only the other day I had an argument with another poster (who shall be nameless) who insisted he was having a terrible season. So it may come as a surprise to one and all to learn that only the brilliantly in-form Kevin De Bruyne has more assists than him in all competitions excluding internationals so far this season.

Total Assists to date (all competitions) 2017/18

11 - De Bruyne
9 - Dele
8 - Firmino
8 - Sane
8 - Silva
7 - Coutinho
7 - Rashford
6 - Azpilacueta
6 - Eriksen
6 - Martial
6 - Ramsey

Edited to restore Eriksen to list, who got lost between typing and posting.

And he's playing better and better too - lovely goal today, and his overall play and decision making is notably better than in earlier games this season.

He has been poor.
Consider this, Dele is passing/assisting the goal machine that is harry kane, kdb to sterling, sterling is as liable to trip over his own feet as he is to score.
Having said that I have faith Dele will be back to his sooner rather than later.
