Son Heung-Min

Son is a fantastic option to have in our squad. I agree that he is probably best starting against the "lesser" teams, but is also a great impact player to have from the bench. I really rate him and wouldn't want him gone as his infectious enthusiasm brings another positive dimension to team spirit. Nice one Son - and congratulations on a brill hat--trick today!

Given we've got a lot of games against lesser teams in teh next few weeks, maybe that its a bad thing!

I wouldn't say Son gets abuse on here, but him and Eriksen seem to be under far more scrutiny for their performances than Lamela is for example. If Lamela had scored a hat trick and had scored as many match winning goals as Son people would be calling him the next Maradona.

Eriksen does get too much scrutiny.

Son is probably closer to Dempsey for me in terms of type of player for Spurs, may not be same level as some of his teammates at times, but scores, and scores when needed.

Son is the same player we bought, great direct style, runs at opposition, very two footed and does best when has 1 or 2 player in front of him, then goal, so all he has to do is slip his man and shoot. His first touch can be atrocious and his short range passing and decision making isn't always good. He's a wing forward, that has a good eye for goal.

As a few people have mentioned, he also does well against lesser opposition, not a bad thing.

All in all, great squad option, kind most teams would kill for.

Agree on all counts. I'd be gutted if we sold him.

He's the type of player that can come in for 4-5 games and look great and score vital goals, then he goes quiet. But it's not the end of the world. Goalscoring midfielders are not easy to come by.

I was critical of him the first half today as his control on numerous occasions let him down badly, but he shut me up with his finishing which was spectacular. The first goal was brilliant but the second one was absolutely amazing. It is incredible technique to hit a ball dropping over your shoulder at full pelt.

There is another level (or two) for Son to climb if he can sort out the sloppy stuff.

***i've only seen highlights***

agree on the second goal, wonderful technique, reminded me of a venables quote about (I think) Clive Allen, "feet like hands"

first one looked good but from the only angle i've seen i'm questioning the keeper

I think you are missing the reason Son gets scrutiny on here. Of those likely to start he's the player that does the least defensively.
When things don't fall right for Lamela or Eriksen attacking wise they are still putting in a huge shift defensively.
Son doesn't have this to fall back on.

Lamela for instance has made way more interceptions and tackles than Son in the league this season.

Lamela in 593 minutes has made 13 successful tackles and 5 interceptions.
Whereas Son in 1256 minutes has made 8successful tackles and 3 interceptions.
For reference Eriksen in 2274 minutes has made 34successful tackles and 16 interceptions.

There was a goal a few seasons back from a Fulham player whose name escapes me. It was a similar type goal but way further out. Definitely one the best I have seen but he never really seem to get the credit I thought it deserved.

Edit: Not the same actually. He chested it before finishing. Kasami was the player

He does work hard though. Just because he doesn't dive into tackles like Lamela. He contributes by working hard in other ways. His goals are more important than Lamela's work rate and he's outscored Eriksen this season.

Tackling is not Lamela's strong point tbh. If you look at him and Son they both bring very good things to the table but overall we would miss Son more due to his goals especially when Kane is out.

When son scored the first goal he let the balk bounce between his legs like a 5 year old would... I then come tied that's why he can't pay as centre forward as he can't do the basics

Then boom and top top drawer goal

How a player can do that yet can't pass 5 yards or even control a ball is beyond me

But he is a very important part if this team

For me he's much more magic than he is mundane. It's not just his quality goals either, he is an entertainer. He takes on defenders in and around the box and creates stuff. I just love watching him giving defenders the runaround, it's the kind of thing I pay my entrance money for.

Yes he can be frustrating when he's sloppy but you always know he has magic in his boots. I felt confident he would score today but a hat-trick was the icing on the cake.

My big fear is that he'll feel he's not been getting enough game time with us and will therefore push for a move come summer.

Totally disagree.
It's a fallacy that Eriksen gets a lot of criticism. The whole of tbe midfield got criticism st the beginning of the season, and rightly so, but because some keep pulling up the criticism aimed at Eriksson now to "prove" how "right" they were it makes it look a lot worse.
Lamela has had more criticism aimed him than son and eriksen combined. A fair amount of it justified.
Son gets away with a lot because of his goals, understandable.
This is the best TEAM I can remember us having in 30 years, it's not perfect and this would a dull old place if we just sat here giving plaudits even some have a run of bad form.
Individually they may not all be world beaters, but as a team we can bloody good.
Let's just enjoy it.

Well he'll get a run now, pretty sure it will be Son taking Harry's place rather than Janssen.

First touch like an anvil, second touch is a goal.
