I know the so called experts (on the box) gave MOM to Kane but for me it was Winks. I have seen a lot of youngsters play their first full game for us over the years and a lot of them never lived up to the hype that followed them. However if this kid keeps working hard he looks as he will be a special player.

Do not get me wrong i am not getting carried away ( as i say i have seen lot crash and burn) but he seems to have that skill that the very best have ( the ability to see things before they happen and i can see how some have likened him to Modric). Its still early of course but he looked so assured yesterday and really did not look out of place.
 
I saw Marneys debut and thought he would go on to be a world beater and got that wrong, I was not at the game yesterday but he seemed good on the box. Hope he becomes a long term spurs player but at the very least I expect he will get the same amount of games as Townsend to prove his worth, shame Pritchard was not allowed that chance.
 
Was excellent yesterday, very composed on the ball in an intense derby atmosphere. We still need to exercise some caution and restraint as Spurs fans are well known to go a bit OTT when it comes to praising new/young players once they make a breakthrough. Always great to see another academy product in the starting 11 and scoring goals.
 
Young Harry Winks, still only 20, left the buzz of the home dressing room following his first ever start for the club to visit his manager to thank him for his part in the dream debut. In fact, the midfielder, who scored Tottenham’s first goal in the 3-2 win, had words for all the staff.

“He came afterwards to the manager’s office and said ‘Thank you’ to all of us, all the coaches,” manager Mauricio Pochettino said. “It’s fantastic for everyone working at the academy.

“He said to us, ‘That was only the start’. I said, ‘Now comes the big challenge for you’. He said, ‘Yes, now I need to work harder to show you that I deserve to play’. That is the mentality that we want.

The thing that impressed me most about him was when he had sight of goal from distance and the crowd was going "SHOOOOOT", would have been easy for a young player on his debut in front of the home crowd to start trying his luck, but he kept his composure and tried playing the clever through ball.

He now joins that illustrious list alongside the likes of Dean Marney, Tom Carroll, Ryan Mason, Nabil Bentaleb and Jamie O'Hara as young midfielders that have come through our academy and had people tossing over them on here after their debuts. Who was actually the last midfielder to come through our academy and make a real impact though? Think you'd probably need to go back as far as Barmby?

it's a fair point.
But it's also a very very high standard.
For a young player to come through and develop straight into a player that can be an integral part of the squad (and ultimately starting eleven if the bold bit is truly adhered to) of a team that is wanting to be in the top 4 in the country is an absolutely massive thing.

Marney has played nearly 400 top flight/second tier games. He was/is a very good player and has had a career just about all our academy players will envy.

Winks does though seem to have a standout technique to most academy graduates, like we saw with King, Mason Bentaleb and Kane

Thought it was disgusting that BT Sport gave MoM to Kane just because he got the decisive goals. That young lad had a storming game given it was his first start, the derby occasion, the importance of the points at stake and given his age. Even without the goal he was such an influence and it would've nothing short of justified for him to have stood in front of the journos and collect the MoM award.

If I was Harry Snr i'd have publicly declared that he was giving the award to Harry Jnr…certainly seemed the feeling was shared amongst our players Twitter accounts!

I think David Howells may be our last academy midfielder to have managed 100 appearances.

Oh dear......Danny Rose has serious competition for being Poch's favourite son.

Those kind of words are music to Poch's ears. Winksy totally gets it.
 
He has a lovely balance too him. Polished technique and totally unfazed. Certainly added some strength that has given him the confidence to mix it with the elite.

Has the potential to be a metronome (ala Modders) or even a more offensive feeder (like Xavi)

Not - Mason, Bentaleb, Townsend, Livermore, Carroll, O'Hara, Marney, Caskey, Turner. Hudd wasn't academy. Barmby was more a forward with us and didn't hit 100 either. Hazard and Hoddle were before Howells. Jamie Redknapp would be clever, but he didn't even hit 50.

It's no wonder nobody remembers him though. He was the very definition of mediocre.
