Michael Dawson

Re: Dawson

Reckon he'll be fit for the world cup?

Re: Dawson

A couple of sources indicating that Hull have put in a £4m bid for Dawson and that the clubs are negotiating.

Over the years, Dawson has been one of my favourite players at Spurs. Been at Spurs for 9 years and been a loyal servant.
When the club accepted an offer from QPR a couple of years ago, he chose to stay and fight for his place and fought his way back in the starting eleven under AVB.
A lot of players would have left the club in that situation.

But I think, the time has come for Spurs to get rid. Turns 31 in november and is nowhere the player, he was a couple of seasons ago. Has become slow and his decision-making leaves a lot to be desired.

Re: Dawson

I still rate him easily in the top 20 CBs in the league.

He certainly should have been playing for England ahead of the ****e like Cahill, Jagielka, Smalling and Jones.

I wouldn't neccessarily want him as a 1st choice power CB next season, but we won't find a better experienced back-up either.

The club needs a bit of heart at the moment too, which only he and Sandro seem to provide.

Then I think you severely underrate Cahill!

Re: Dawson

I would be gutted if we sold Dawson, even if he comes on now and again for the final 15 to shore up a winning defense, he's worth keeping around. That plus cup starts, and a few in the league should keep him happy. Don't sell him, Pochy.

Re: Dawson

To be honest I was on AVBs side when he thought was time to get rid and I was proven wrong then and I dont think much has changed from then until now. His leadership is something we dont have in abundance,Im sure hes great to have in the dressing room and all that aside he was our best centre back last season and £4million for an Englishman with a good few years left in him is nowhere near enough IMO...

As a man I really like him but as a player I no longer think he is good enough. He has zero pace and is also often caught out positionally. He may be English and he may be a nice guy but he is simply no longer good enough in my humble opinon

I agreed on your initial point until last season where he significantly declined in performance. He has leadership qualities but that shouldn't stop an exit, just leads us to look for those qualities in replacements. Plus you can't have your club captain as a bit part player. He either plays or he's gone

Re: Dawson

Anyone who would sell Dawson doesnt understand a basic fundamental of building a football team or squad. Ironically this has been the case with several of our previous managers and Directors of Football.

Every great football team has a mix of technique, pace, flair, determination, leadership; whilst it sounds a bit old school/1970s/Fat Sam every good team needs it grit and courage. To pick a team of technically beautiful players and no balance is totally counter productive. Whilst Championship Manager and FIFA might suggest otherwise, name me a great team that hasnt had a few 'cloggers' in the team....every United title winning team had an O'Shea, Phil Neville, Wes Brown, Cleverley, Wellbeck etc - even L'**** had a Grimandi, Parlour or Keown.

Dawson is not only our captain, he is also our longest serving player and I maintain that he is perfectly capable of doing us a decent job against at least 12 other PL teams. Whilst I would agree that I **** myself when he is up against a Suarez or Aguero he'd have been the first name on the teamsheet for many games we'll play next season. Is he as consistent as he was 4 years ago? No, he isn't but are we better for having him as part of the squad? Absolutely.

Mate tbf a lot of defenders look **** against an aguerro or a suarez. Hell even Vincent Kompany has had his fair share of off games. Daws and King were one of the best central defensive partnerships this club has ever seen. Would be gutted if Daws goes after all he is a player of immense human dimensions....

i know what you you mean, but who knows we could be getting an upgraded, meaner Dawson Mk II in the process.

You do Phil Neville a massive disservice there - the rest are journeymen, players who made up the squad and rotated in during the really halcyon United days or they were utility players who could play a variety of positions across the back.

Dawson is so one-dinensional, he has been a great club servant and pushed his ability to the max but he was never an instinctively clever player. His time is drawing to and end. He has no adaptability or versatility.

Re: Dawson

I think the issue people who don't see the value of selling Dawson is

- What value is 4M to the club really?
- vs. a decent, experienced CB who can get to play in all those Europa/CC games, and be cover for the inevitable injuries/suspensions (how many times have we had 4 CBs and all injured?)
- Add the fact that he obviously loves Spurs and is long time servant of the club.

To me, we could keep him another year, see how it works with him not as first choice, and could still get the same price in a year if we really wanted to sell.

Re: Dawson

We're quick to complain when someone doesn't show any loyalty. Let's show some to someone in return. Terrific servant, can still do a good job. Good person to keep around the club.

Re: Dawson

Oh sh!t, does this mean I need a new username.

Actually I'll keep it as a reminded of a club great.

If he is off then I hope they know that the replacement is a step up from Kaboul etc because of our current crop Dawson is the most solid performer.
