OMT - Tottenham vs. Everton

I know they have Fellainu and Pienaar out, but I worry about the pace and strength through he middle of Anichebe. He could tear Dawson a new one and if we play a high line and have Friedel in goal it could be a car crash!

Another worry is our tendency for some months now to concede goals esp headers from set-pieces and/or crosses in the box. Everton will look to exploit that to the fullest...

Oh and Parker has got to keep his positional discipline in this one. Get it and give it, no fannying around, losing the ball then leaving Anichebe and the like to run striaght at our CBs like Basle were allowed to.

Spurs Premier League Record 2012-13 with and without Gareth Bale...

Stats are pretty meaningless for such a tiny sample size of 4 games.

But if you wanna play stats look at our home games only:

We've won 66% of our home league games when Bale was missing but only won 50% of our home league games when Bale has played!
We've got 2 points per game at home without Bale but only 1.83 points per games with him!!

-------------------Lloris---------------------

Walker---Daws-----------Verts-----Naughton

------------Carroll---------Dembele-------------

Hotlby---------------Dempsey------------Siggy

---------------------Ade---------------------------

Subs; Friedel, Caulker, BAE, Parker, Hudd, Lennon/Coulthirst, Obika

I figure we'll need more attacking threat than usual, especially with Bale out and Lennon unlikely to start. So playing Carroll alongside Dembele might be worth a shot. Dembele can drop deeper than normal to shield the defense ( a role he's quite good at) and Carroll can play higher up springing Siggy, Holtby, Dempsey and Ade. Worth a try, we haven't got much to lose.

2-2. Ade and Sig versus Jelavic and Gibson for them.

It's going to be a good contest. Everton counts on felaini and pienar a lot, and we have better quality in depth.

I think we'll have just enough to edge this one. 3-2 win for us with lots of sloppy open football.

We won't play 3 at the back imo.

My team would be:

Lloris
Walker Dawson Caulker Vertonghen
Carroll Dembele
Ceballos Holtby Sigurdsson
Adebayor

I doubt that's what we'll see of course but we need to play with real wingers imo and I think Ceballos could do a good job. We shouldn't try to shoehorn players into positions, except Vertonghen at LB simply because we don't have any competent left back right now.

What about Kaboul at right-back and Walker at right-wing? I know Kaboul's still etremely unfit and hasn't trained under AVB much, but it is an option.

I think we've played Walker right wing before and it hasn't worked. He doesn't have the qualities of a winger. Walker hasn't been great but he's less of a liability than whoever plays left back imo, which is why Vertonghen should play LB.

Ceballos has been scoring his ass off in the U21 league, if we aren't going to give such players a chance in the first team when the opportunity arises then what is the point of having youth players in the first place?

I don't think Ceballos was originally a right winger either, but I'll take your word for it. However, given AVB's reluctance to play even twelve million pound buys like Hugo Lloris before they've trained with the team and adapted thoroughly means kids like Ceballos have a bugger all chance of being selected on the fly a la Danny Rose against Arsenal. Hence the Walker suggestion.

True there's 0% chance he'll start and maybe 1% chance he'll be on the bench which is really annoying. Though with Friedel I thought the reason was that Brad was in good form so it would be unfair to drop him. Or something like that.

I could see why people are suggesting Walker on the right wing. We lack pace hugely when Bale and Lennon are out.

Lloris
Naughton Daws Verts Ekotto
Walker Parker Dembele Holtby
Siggy Adebayor

Dempsey Adebayor

Why the hell not

Yeah - picks itself really.

I'd like to see Holtby, Siggy and Dempsey quite fluid behind Ade, with Parker and Dembele holding to allow the fullbacks to overlap.

Stats: No player has created more goalscoring chances than Everton's Leighton Baines (96) across Europe's top five leagues this season. (Opta)

So, we simply need to stop Baines from creating chances. If we can do that, we probably would have won half the match. Hope Parker can do that job well. Ofcourse, we will then have to find someone to score goals for us.

If Anichebe causes us problems then we dont deserve to be top 4. You look at their midfield and forwards and this really is a game where we should be determined to keep a clean sheet. Cant see there being many goals tomorrow - 1-0 or 1-1 most likely scorelines I think. I actually think our play might surprise people - sure we're missing two of our best players but the likes of Holtby, Dempsey and Siggy will play ball to feet and have decent movement.

If we can take 2 or 3 points from tmrw and Man C then get Bale and Lennon back for the Wigan game (so just over 3 weeks lay off) then I still think we have an excellent chance of top 4. You also have to remember that cheatski still have FA cup games and likely to have Europa semi finals in between upcoming league games
