VAR: Sponsored by Chelsea

Had a long chat with bloke in pub Monday we have come to a brilliant solution to the problem with VAR. The game is so fast moving with physical contact its extremely difficult for officials to make correct and timely decisions, if we remove those elements from the game it will be so much easier for them. A few simple changes to rules like no physical contact, no running, ball must not leave the ground and scrapping the offside will eliminate virtually all the contenious rulings.

Well i kept being told that VAR when it first came in would make the game (take your pick from the following), fairer, cut out wrong decisons, make the game more honest etc etc). Instead its caused more problems, more debate and just as many poor, bad decisions being made. Still i guess there are some who have made money out of its development.

I was totally behind VAR when it was introduced, but the mismanagement of the system has destroyed my faith in it every being used to the benefit of of the game as a form of entertainment. We may get to the point where the management it better but there will be more rule changes and guidelines for decision making. This will probably the only case where a game has to change to suit the system allegedly design to improve it.

Moving to 'plays', like in American sports, rather than having a game of flow, is the only way to do it. It's about deciding we want a game that's about stats, rather than one about emotion.
