VAR: Sponsored by Chelsea

You're very mistaken, because that's exactly how it was. Without the endless microscopic forensic analysis of VAR, fans accepted the game for what it was. Some decisions went against you, and some went for you. And that was it. It was occasionally annoying, but nothing more. Next time around, something went in your favour.

That's what they told us, but that's not how it worked.

Even if you take away VAR, Sky and similar will still keep going over the images to find fault and trying to get managers to attack the refereeing performance afterwards. We'll never get a culture of accepting errors and moving on.

The offside checks must get quicker. Do that and the major grievance people have right now will be gone. They also need VAR to actually make calls. Get rid of the pitchside screens, they're a waste of time. Why can't football have a refereeing setup where everyone works together like in other sports instead of one man being in charge of every decision?

Even if we had a computer that was 100% right and only took seconds to reach even the most difficult decisions there would still be moaning. Some parties want the controversy, whether it's for financial reasons or they've simply decided they don't want this and will never accept it.

If mistakes aren't allowed, we need to stop football all together, because players make horrible mistakes constantly!
Why should refs be the only participant on the field that isn't "allowed to make a mistake? Doesn't add up.

Because that's what makes some players better than others, they make fewer mistakes. That's the game.

The ref is there to make sure it's played by the rules. Very different.

Perhaps some of the spoilt, entitled, wannabe youtubers and crybabies won't "accept" mistakes, because they never do any themselves, right.
Well, to those I only say shut up and grow up!
Life is full of mistakes. Some people are even the result of mistakes. That's just how the world is.

But even the best players make mistakes. Quite incredible mistakes, and pretty frequently to.

All the checks must be quicker. 20 mins of a game being var checks is ludicrous.

Not having that, I’m still angry about a thousand things that have gone against us in the past.

Pretty sure I’m not the only one.

Because officials are part of the structure not a participant, they have to be as correct as the size of the pitch, the frame of the goal, they are supposed to be consistent across matches so all teams are officiated equally.

That wasn’t the case, which is why VAR was brought in in the first place.

Most rules in football are subject to interpretation, so there isn't a clear right or wrong!

Something else we need to fix.

Not that I agree most laws are subjective, I think most are objective, was the ball over line, was that player beyond the last defender, etc…

How to fix VAR:

1. Get rid of pitch side monitor. As @Jordinho said, work as a team. We don't care if you made a mistake in real time, that is what VAR is for, not for you to cover each others' arses.
2. If you need to draw a line for offside, it's not clear and obvious, move on. The frame speeds mean this is a complete joke anyway.
3. Get rid of slo-mo, it makes things look worse than they are. VAR should simply be to pick up in real time, what the ref didn't see in real time.
4. Go back to handball being deemed intentional - if it's not clear and obvious, move on.
5. If something is clear and obvious, it will be quick. Let the ref know and act accordingly. This will avoid the wait in most cases, although I appreciate that the Romero sending off had three instances to look at.

You cannot get consistent when human beings are making subjective decisions. So all var is doing is wasting time snd taking excitement out of the game.

Not sure why people are complaining about that Calvert Lewin red card, look how high his right foot is off the floor, studs up.

Clearly endangering an opponent, doesn’t matter that the Palace player avoided it, absolutely should be a red card imo.

They just said Raheem Sterling has not scored in his last 20 semif-final appearances for club and country. Surely that cant be right?

His Last 20? How many semi-finals has he played in?
