Transfer Rumour Thread

Lass Diarra

Would have been funny if Harry was here trying to sign him - you can only imagine the absurd posts that would have been posted.

ps - there is no way he is 29... maybe 29 leap years yep

Like the absurd abuse he got when we signed Gudjohnson? Oh wait that never happened

Re: Lass Diarra

How the **** is this guy 29?

Do Mali have the same birth registration system as Cameroon (Eto'o) and Colombia (Falcao)?

Seriously though - IIRC he was a Chelsea youth team purchase, rather than a first team buy

Re: Lass Diarra

Does look like the January moves are happening behind the scenes as clearly Poch isnt happy with the current squad.

Ian Porterfield is our chief scout again and he worked under 'arry so could see why we might be going for Diarra again. Looks like Poch wants more experience in the side, he is 29 now so looks like a stop gap.

I'd like to see Alex Song come in, why we didnt get him ahead of the Spammers i dont know!

I'm not sure about this.

History suggests we won't sign anyone in January, other than perhaps a free or nominal fee kid (Holtby/Fryers style).

We need to shift the likes of Paulinho, Dembele, Lennon and Chiriches before we can buy anyone, and we all know how easily that never happens. In particular we've got about 2 CMs too many, so would need to shift 3 to bring one in etc.

I don't see where the idea Poch wants experience from comes from. Aren't Osvaldo and Fazio the only two experienced players he's signed since he's been in England? He strikes me as more a coach who prefers malleable younger players.

If we do go for a more experienced player I'd put money on it being Hector Moreno, but that will be subject to moving on Chiriches and maybe Kaboul too (and him getting fit again by Jan).

Broomfield is (like Baldini) a South American specialist, so I'd imagine that's where our unknowns will come from

Re: Lass Diarra

I saw the other day that he was being released by Lokomotiv Moscow and wondered how long it would take for the link to come up! He's one of those Stuart Downing-type links that just never goes away.

Isn't the big problem with Diarra that he has this red-blood cell disorder - an "unpredictable illness" which when it flares necessitates "rest for indeterminate periods"? He's been in Russia for 4 years now and only clocked up 35 appearances.

Also remember Capoue and Stambouli get picked for France ahead of him (he was last called up prior to the 2010 WC).

I bet Redknapp takes him to QPR if he keeps his job till January.

If this is accurate it seems like a rather bad idea to sign him...

He was a good player wasnt he - love the guy

I was more alluding to the whole best mates and him buying same players again and again - cheap comment by moi I know.

Re: Lass Diarra

No thanks to Diarra. Not better than what we have, lessens the minutes/development of young players (Bentaleb, esp) and recent signings (Stambouli, Capoue, Paulinho).
Yes please to Kramer. Better than what we have.

I highly doubt we sign either in January.

I agree, I'd have gone for Lescott as well. Both are better than anything we've got in their positions.

Yep I think we missed a trick with Lescott. He has been excellent for WBA (especially against us). I guess his lack of playing time at City made people forget how good a player he was at Everton.

Broomfield a South american specialist? Care to expand?

Watching these guys play today i'd love to see them both at Spurs. Recently we've bought too many foreign players from abroad and alot have been poor and many are still settling in, these guys i feel would settle into the team straight away.

Vlaar would fit in very nicely as our leader of the defence alongside JV and then Benteke can play upfront and be our main man alongside Harry Kane. I feel at the moment we lack a strong spine in the team and think both would be perfect additions.

I dont think Villa will sell both in Jan but at possibly we can move for them in the summer. After that we need a solid player maker cause right now Capoue isnt doing it and Mason is a work in progress.

What do we think?

Re: Xherdan Shaqiri

Seems to have been around for a long time but only 23! Lots of experience I imagine

Re: Benteke & Vlaar

I wanted Vlaar this summer. Now we have Fazio who I hope can bring something similar into our team (experience, bit of leadership) given time to settle. Signing Vlaar might make the Fazio signing a bit redundant, but I still wouldn't be against it.

Benteke... Can't decide either way. Definitely useful, would prefer him over Ade every day of the week and I think he's a better fit than Soldado

Re: Xherdan Shaqiri

We seem to disagree again.

I know he has had some good games but I really do not get the hype with this kid, also do not believe he is the sort of player we need. I think we need at least one central defender, a passing midfielder and a defensively sound midfielder, and 2 strikers.

A tricky winger who shoots all the time and sometimes scores is not for me. Maybe he will turn out great but I have seen him quite a few times and he falters to deceive for me, plus we have Lamela to do what he does.
