****TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs west sham united************

Hugo, Naughton, Kaboul, Verts, Rose, Pauli, Holtby, Erikson, Lamela Townsend, Ade

Dont think we need Capoue sitting infront of the back 4 agaisnt this lot, they will just be pumping balls into the box so its mostly about the back 4, would rather have Paulinho breaking into the box trying to get on the end of something.
Lets **** em up.

One of the reasons I was hoping for Cap to play, is because I felt with his size he might help with the aerial barrage. But IIRC he didn't seem too good in the air last season, so maybe there is no need to play him. I also read on another forum that Rose won a higher % of aerial duels than Davies last season, so maybe that might tip the decision in favour of Rose.

Good luck to Poch in sorting out all the decisions. Of course we shouldn't worry too much about West Ham, but like most away games in the Prem, it can easily turn out to be a very difficult game. They'll be massively up for it. Whatever their fans think of Allardyce, they'll back their team v us, while they're not losing anyway.

LB then becomes Rose's to lose.

Shouldn't take him long. 60mins?

Seriously though, West Ham have been abysmal in preseason. Big Sam looks like a dead man walking. We really should be able to add to his woes.

Lloris

Naughton Kaboul Dier Rose

Sandro Bentaleb

Lennon Eriksen Townsend

Ade

-------------------Lloris--------------------

Naughton----Kaboul-----Dier--------Rose

------------Capoue----Bentaleb-----------

-----Lamela------Lennon--------Eriksen-

------------------Adebayor----------------

I could live with this for sure, although I wish Sandro was fitter as I'd have him over Capoue…that front four should be able to interchange at will; exciting prospect. Got to say, Soldado is also a great fit for Lamela and Lennon BUT Ade is such a unit he's tough to drop. Either way, we should have more than enough to give these ****ehawks a beating!

West Ham United host Tottenham Hotspur at Upton Park on Saturday 16th August 2014 KO 15:00, in the opening round of 2014-15 Premier League season.

The Hammers finished last season in 13th place on 40 points while Spurs finished 6th on 69 points. This will be the 245th time the two clubs have met.

The first meeting came in the Thames and Medway League in September 1898 when West Ham were known as Thames Ironworks. That game at Northumberland Park resulted in a 3-0 home win for Spurs. Thames Ironworks won the return fixture 2-1 at the Memorial Grounds in East Ham.

The teams met again in the Southern League the next season with Spurs running out 7-0 winners at Northumberland Park and the return fixture ending in a 0-0 draw at the Memorial Grounds.

The 1900-01 season saw Thames Ironworks become West Ham United and the Hammers and Spurs played each other in both the Southern League and the Western League. By now, Spurs had moved into their new ground at White Hart Lane but it would be another four years before West Ham moved to their current home at Upton Park (or more correctly, the Boleyn Ground). Spurs won three of the four matches played that season against West Ham with the remaining game being drawn.

Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United continued to meet in both Leagues up to season 1907-08, when Spurs switched to the Football League.

The teams didn't play any more competitive matches against each other until after the First World War. During the War, several games were played in the various competitions organised to maintain the morale of the public.

Spurs beat West Ham 3-0 in the first FA Cup match played between the teams in February 1920. To date, the clubs have played against each other together 11 times in the competition with Spurs winning 6 games to West Ham's 3 and 2 drawn games.

The first Football League meetings came in the Second Division in season 1919-20 with West Ham winning 2-1 at Upton Park and Spurs winning 2-0 at White Hart Lane. Spurs regained their top flight status that season, which had been taken away in very contraversial circumstances.

Spurs and West Ham played their first match in the Top Flight of English Football in February 1924 with the Hammers drawing 0-0 at the Lane but winning the return leg at Upton Park 1-0. The clubs met for another four seasons in Division One from 1924-25 to 1927-28. From 1932-33 until the outbreak of World War Two, the clubs met in the Second Division.

During the Second World War, Spurs and West Ham played 20 games which often featured 'guest players' as many of the club's regular footballers were called away on National Service.

Regular football resumed in season 1946-47 and the teams played four seasons in Division Two before Spurs won the title in 1949-50 and were promoted to Division One, where they won the first of their two League Championships the next season.

West Ham United were themselves promoted to the First Division for the 1959-60 season and they enjoyed a lengthy spell in the Top Flight which lasted until 1978.

West Ham United beat Spurs in the first Football League Cup meeting in 1966 and to date the clubs have met 7 times in the competition with Spurs winning three games, West Ham two games and two games drawn.

Spurs were founder-members of the Premier League in season 1992-93 and have been ever present in the competition. West Ham won promotion to the Premier League for the 1993-94 season and lost to Spurs 3-1 at Upton Park that season. The Hammers beat Spurs 4-1 in the return match at the Lane.

West Ham won the 2010-11 match in September at Upton Park 1-0 with a Frederic Piquionne goal while the game at White Hart Lane in March 2011 finished in a goalless draw. The Hammers were relegated at the end of that season finishing bottom on 33 points.

The match at White Hart Lane in November 2012 resulted in a 3-1 win for Spurs with Jermain Defoe scoring just before half-time and adding a second after 64 minutes after Gareth Bale had put Spurs 2-0 ahead after 58 minutes. The Hamers goal came from on-loan Andy Carroll.

The game at Upton Park in February 2013 was won 3-2 by Spurs. Gareth Bale put Spurs ahead after 13 minutes but an Andy Carroll penalty levelled things up after 25 minutes. Joe Cole put the Hammers ahead after 58 minutes before Gylfi Sigurdsson scored the equaliser after 76 minutes. The game looked like ending as a draw until Bale scored a second stunning 90th minute goal.

West Ham had a memorable 3-0 win at White Hart Lane in October 2013. Winston Reid opened the scoring in the 66th minute before Ricardo Vaz Te struck six minutes later and Ravel Morrison added a third ten minutes from time. The clubs met at the Lane in the 5th Round of the Football League Cup in December 2013 with West Ham progressing to the Quarter Finals after a 2-1 win. Emmanuel Adebayor put Spurs ahead after 67 minutes but late goals from Matt Jarvis and Modibo Maiga secured the victory.

West Ham completed a 3rd win over Spurs last season with a 2-0 win at Upton Park in May with Harry Kane scoring an own goal & Stewart Downing scoring.

To date, there have been 36 matches played in the Premier League with Spurs winning 17, West Ham winning 12 and 7 matches drawn. The clubs have met in two foreign venues, firstly on tour in the United States in May 1969 where Spurs beat West Ham 2-1 in Baltimore, USA and more recently in the Barclays Asia Trophy in July 2009 in Beijing, China with Spurs winning 1-0.

Overall, Tottenham Hotspur have won 100 games, West Ham United have won 84 games and the remaining 60 games have been drawn.

Now I know the season's truly returned: Statto's match thread posts have appeared again. :)

Lloris
Naughton Kaboul Vertonghen Rose
Capoue Bentaleb
Eriksen Lamela Lennon
Adebayor

Pretty confident that will be the team. I'd rather Eriksen and Lamela were switched though.

Agree with most of that though I'm not sure that Poch will play those two in CM together. Both are relatively static players rather than people who play with energy and help 'press' opponents. I reckon he'll go with Holtby plus one of Sandro or Capoue in CM

I'm sure they've had enough already. They've got to crack on with the job they're paid rather handsomely for now.
We're not doing anything different to Emirates Marketing Project or countless other clubs in resting our WC players in preseason. I don't think that Arsenal's Germans have featured yet either.

Surely, resting them and bringing them back when ready (and each player is different) than bemoaning a key player getting injured in January because of fatigue?

Chelsea played with Schurrle, Oscar, Raimres, Willian, Hazard, Courtois last night, so i definitely think on Sat we could have used Verts, Dembele, Chadli, Paulinho at some point

Like I said, each players' fitness is different, and Chelsea have far great depth than us. We moan when players pick up injuries because of fatigue and now people are complaining because we are giving them a rest to help prevent against this. Everyone is an expert and football managers cannot win.

i would like to see Verts and Dembele back on Sat.....Paulie and Chadli can have a rest all the way till christmas :)

mmm, let me see. Spurs play Saturday, Cheat$ki play Tuesday = 3 extra days rest. Perhaps the professionals who deal with player recovery feel that our WC players needed that extra time.

Or perhaps players might consider a month off enough holiday when most normal workers get not a lot more for the whole year. Just saying.

Milos right in one respect but if a player can't recover in 4/5 weeks then they shouldn't be in the business and living the life of luxury for the privilege.

i dont care really. We should be able to put a team out on Sat without the WC players and still win.

This is how I used to think before I realised it doesn't work like that with Spurs! Definetly lowered my expectations this season.

oh i know it doesnt work like that.......we should win, but most likely will get stuffed :). I guess i dont care too much in general, looks like another transitional season so if we win games then great, if we dont then so be it

True. Gets a bit tiresome all these transitional seasons though for me.
