*** Tottenham Hotspur vs Scum OMT ***

I thought it was offside but if that taco shearer does I best take another look.

The rule has been fudged around with due to the strange obsession with goals that many seem to have.

Great quote from Jonathan 'Goals are overrated' Wilson:

Football's beauty is in the struggle, in the fact that a weaker side, through diligence, industry and clever tactics, can hold off a stronger one. That means that often there aren't flicks and tricks and hatfuls of goals. If ready gratification is what these armchair moaners want, they should watch pornography, or perhaps basketball: it's the height of arrogance for them to demand a team should play in an ineffective way so that they can be entertained.

Howard Webb said about a third of goals scored nowadays have someone in an offside position that is not interfering, they might have crossed the original ball or be injured or be a long way away from the ball. We don't want those goals ruled out. But if someone is near the ball or box and influencing a defender to cover that player, they are influencing the game.

Easy fix.... if you in the 6 yard box and offside your off regardless of interfering with play

Or an alternative.... if your in front of the goal when the ball is struck

My defence for why that goal was offside was ignore Wimmer... he did what he di but how about how Sanchez movement influenced Hugo's position and meant he didn't come for a ball in case he got it!!! That's why the fecker was offside at least

I remember the good old days that a forward could be facing the wrong way, smoking a fag and scratching his arse near the centre circle and still (rightly) concede a FK for offside when his keeper booted a goal kick down the opposite flank.

one like is not enough for that

We need:
1. Offside if interfering with play.
2. If goal scored, and any player is standing in offside position, then automatic video review by 4th official to see if interfering with play. 4th official consists of a ref/two "neutral" former players. Majority decision.
3. Oh, I forgot football is still in the dark ages when it comes to video reviews.

I may be the only one who thinks there is nothing wrong with the law as stated.
The 'action' of the goons Going for the ball meant they influenced the play, of both keeper and Wimmer. Therefore, Lino should have put his flag up.

We don't want clean strikes ruled out because someone in the corner of the box or keepers eye has strayed off side.

The Lino misjudged it, I reckon he thought the goons were in line when ball was kicked. Perhaps, he should explain, honestly, his decision, rather than a 'post-hoc' cover-up, so we can understand the issues that officials are faced with.

Like it or not it's bound to come sooner or later, but it probably needs a Barcelona or a RM to be denied a clear goal that robs them of the CL trophy in the final to give it the necessary kick up the arse.

@alekaras

I very much liked Eriksen's performance yesterday.

Not having a go at Alli, because he's young and is playing in all the games, but I do think he is more often giving up possession to our opponents than Eriksen does and doing so in that position, leaves us open to counter attacks especially when the full-backs have pushed on.

I felt that was Eriksen's best performance in ages.
Alli gives up possession more in the final third, rather than the middle of the pitch, if I'm not mistaken. And it's usually because he tries something fancy. I'm OK with that, since if he pulls it off he can create chances.

Up until Euro 96, I followed the England team closely, but lost interest once the so called 'Golden Generation' started to dominate the squad.

I started to lose interest about that time as well, the final nail in the coffin was when Sven decided to take 2 injured players, 1 giraffe and I 16 year old kid as our strikers to a major tournament.

That did it for me as well, how you can select a player whos own manager had not picked for a game is beyond belief.

Yeah I went to Germany for that World Cup. I barely watched the games, they were a real inconvenience that bit into drinking time. I remember Crouch had to pull the dreadlocks of someone from Trinidad or somewhere, in order to score a header. Absolute rubbish.

I try to watch our games a second time when possible and have noticed, that it's not just in the final third where the possession is lost by Alli. In both the Bayer games, he were guilty of losing possession in the midfield with our full-backs level or ahead of him on numerous occasions.

I think the reason his form has dipped, is similar to why Kane's form dipped prior to his injury. Both players IMO, have all to often been turning their nose up at the quick simple pass to a team mate, in favour of taking the extra touches when it's not been the correct thing to do. It's not the giving up of possession by trying a slide rule pass I'm bothered about, but the getting caught on the ball when it should've already been laid off. In fact, Kane's injury was largely this, because he dwelt on the ball against a desperate opponent and it really should have been passed back.
