TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs ASTON VILLA - OMT

Wow, they have spent a lot.

They are in a transitional period though where they've lost key players and haven't replaced them - Agbonlahor is their only player of any real quality with Bent injured and Petrov out of the game.

Losing Barry, Milner, Downing and Young over a couple of years, and replacing them with...a poor N'Zogbia is going to slow them down. Add to that losing Bent and Petrov it's difficult to see really why they should be any higher than they are.

We should win, but we need to be clinical and take our chances. When we get in good positions we need to make the most of them and not brick ourselves. But we should win.

This is the key point. Last night we scored 4 goals from 14 shots, 11 on target. This is pretty good for us, about 29% shots converted.

Versus Blackburn we had 19 shots with 8 on target. 2 goals. 11% of all shots resulted in goals.

Against QPR we had 17 shots, 8 on target. 0 goals. 0%.

I know this is only a small sample set but the point is that it is not the amount of chances you get it is how clinical you are at converting the chances and we have been very very wasteful during our bad run without having played a whole lot differently in my mind.

The difference is that Bolton were attacking and were stretched at the back, QPR and Blackburn parked their buses.

And there may be lessons for ourselves in there too and maybe we should also appreciate what is being achieved at our club and enjoy the fact we are up there challenging for the third season in a row. When you look at Everton's collapse the season after they finished 4th, the fact that Saudi Sportswashing Machine actually got relegated inbetween qualifying and being back in the top flight, how far Villa collapsed after challenging and what has happened to Leeds Utd. Gives it some real perspective.

interesting point.

i wonder if we could level the same at Chelsea if they don't win the CL. could be a period around the back end of the circle coming, as it were.

This 100% it should be very interesting to see how Villa approach this game. They have been fudging awful for months now. me thinks they may just play for a draw with their superior goal difference a point may see them safe.

By my calculations Villa have picked up 14 points from their last 19 league matches with their only wins being Wolves and home to Fulham we really should batter this team. Make it happen COYS

I'm not sure what the Statto rules say about such instances

The goals & assists stats are from the official Premier League figures and Kaboul wasn't credited with an assist at Emirates Marketing Project, although the BBC match report did give it to him (see table below).

While Spurs & Villa both have very similar records in the Premier League games played against each other, Tottenham have had the upper hand recently with four wins and two draws from the last six matches played...

Here are the Spurs player's goals & assists in all competitions for 2011-12 going into Sunday's game at Villa Park...

Yeah....don't!

Jump on a train and cab it from New Street, the area in Aston is a brick hole/industrial area

Villa will park the bus as they always do, even if we go 2-0 up they won't attack. They only need a point to be safe, can't see all of the teams below them winning both games.

Where's everyone drinking before the match?

Me and my mate are coming up from Pompey early doors (about 7am I think), and will only get to Birmingham at like 12PM.

mccleish will play for 0-0. 1 goal might be enough to win this.

even if we take the lead he'll probably settle for losing 1-0 and afterwards will say it's a good result against one of the best teams in the league
