He has the same qualities that made it possible for Cristiano Ronaldo to convert to a striker.
I wouldn't mind us testing this out, think he could score brickloads.

As for a wing alternative if Bale should play in the middle, I assume AVB wouldn't mind getting someone he knows from Porto.
Silvestre Varela was in the Portugal squad this summer, is available for a reasonable fee due to his contract being in its final year.
Love it. Finally, someone agrees with me - at least enough to try it.

It's a bit weird these signings the chinese clubs are making,
it seems every player they buy are huge sized centre forwards.
Wonder how their games will be with lots of short chinese players while every team has one or two giant up front.

For those who aren't interested in the New Kit thread, Lily White has just posted a link to the Under Armour UK twitter account, which updated just before 11 pm:

Tomorrow is an exciting day. That is all.

Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are set to test Arsenal’s resolve to keep Theo Walcott.

Winger Walcott has one year left to run on his contract and is yet to agree a new deal.

He currently earns around £65,000 a week and is looking to be brought into line with other England internationals on £100,000-a-week deals at their clubs.

Some senior Arsenal officials are believed to be keen to cash in on Walcott and the club are set to be given the chance to do so.

Chelsea are ready to make an official bid for Walcott, after carefully monitoring his situation, while former Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti is also keen to take the 23-year-old to Paris.

Arsenal could be tempted by a bid of around £15million for Walcott, rather than face the threat of losing him for free next year.

Despite starting from the subs’ bench, Walcott was one of England’s better performers at the Euros, turning the game against Sweden with a goal and an assist.

Walcott netted 11 goals for Arsenal last season and created more goals than any other *player for top scorer Robin van Persie.

Jan Vertonghen has appointed a top lawyer to help clinch his move to Tottenham.

The 26-year-old Belgium international has been locked in a contract wrangle with Ajax.

Vertonghen claims he should pocket about £1.5million from the £9m fee Spurs have agreed with the Dutch club.

Once that part of the deal is ratified Vertonghen, 25, will sign a four year contract with a one-year option at White Hart Lane.

But Ajax claim they should only pay a cut to the player if the full buy-out fee of about £15m is met. And Spurs have no intention of doing that.

So Vertonghen has appointed Dutch sports lawyer Harro Knijff to take Ajax to court over his claim for 15 per cent of any transfer fee.

Knijff said: “Jan Vertonghen is completely right in his stance against Ajax. There is no way Ajax can interpret this differently.

“It is a clear case for me.’’

If the deal isn’t resolved Vertonghen has threatened to sit out the final year of his contract and join Spurs as a free agent next summer.

Exclusive: Ade out, RvP in? Emirates Marketing Project must offload Togo striker to Spurs to land Arsenal star van Persie

Emirates Marketing Project manager Roberto Mancini is planning to launch a £20million bid for Van Persie, but has been told he must offload at least one big earner first, which is where Tottenham come in

Come on Danny, pay them whatever it takes (within reason).

Leighton Baines has admitted that cash-strapped Everton may be forced to sell him to Manchester United.

Sunday Mirror Sport revealed in April that Sir Alex Ferguson had targeted the 27-year-old left-back as a replacement for Patrice Evra – and United are expected to step up their bid to land him by tabling a £12million offer this week.

United are also ready to hijack Tottenham’s attempt to sign Portuguese midfielder Joao Moutinho from Porto by making a £30m bid.

But landing Baines will be Ferguson’s next piece of business after spending £20m to recruit Shinji Kagawa from Borussia Dortmund and Nick Powell from Crewe last month.
