Serious relegation fears

We need to aim for third minimum as although United are Inconsistent in the league, they have the players and experience to do Well in the Europa and possibly nick a CL place to the detriment of the team in fourth.

If an English team wins either the CL or EL but finishes outside the top 4 then they will qualify for the CL in addition to the top 4. England can have a maximum of 5 CL entrants. So only if both the CL and EL are won by English teams finishing outside the top 4 will the fourth place team not get a CL place.

WOW.

Remember it well, the double signing of Luka Modric and Brad Friedel.

Do you know who that 'Friedel' is? He's Alan Dixon, our player liaison officer. He's also Levy's brother-in-law. He seems to sit on our bench sometimes now (he has his own 'AD' branded tracksuit).

Yeah you always see him with the team etc, i took him to be the muscle.

Of all your mesmorising theories this is the most laughable yet! Nothing to do with our players taking the foot off the gas, getting their cycles in sync:rolleyes: Honestly you are just on a wind up aren't you? Go on admit it please
Physical form can be set to peak at certain times by training with the right intensity and intervals in the weeks before you want to peak. Individual athletes do it all the time. But that is different to being in form fooballing wise. So funnily enough, GB talks rubbish and sense at the same time. (mostly rubbish imo)

And if you look at the group of companies who we're roughly the same size as and pay similar wages to, then in theory that's about £100m which presumably has been channelled into, or set aside for, the new stadium

We can rotate because we have a good squad of players. It'd be pretty easy to think of lineups right up to Arsenal at home, injuries permitting, a know-nothing like me can do it. Mostly it'd be 3 or 4 changes, bar the cup game against Palace where we could risk a few more:

Sun - PL - City (a):

-------------lloris
walker----toby----wimmer----rose
----------dier-----dembele
--son---------alli--------eriksen
-------------kane

Thur- EL - Fiorentina (a): 4 changes

-------------lloris
trippier----toby----wimmer----davies
----------dier-----dembele
--lamela---------eriksen--------chadli
-------------kane

Sun - FAC- Palace (h): 7 changes

-------------vorm
walker
----dier----wimmer----rose
--------bentaleb-----mason
--lamela---------carroll--------chadli
-------------son

Thur- EL - Fiorentina (h): 8 changes

-------------lloris
trippier
----toby----wimmer----davies
----------dier-----dembele
--son---------alli--------eriksen
-------------kane

Sun - PL - Swansea (h): 4 changes

-------------lloris
walker----toby----wimmer----rose
----------dier-----mason
--lamela---------eriksen--------son
-------------kane

Weds- PL - West Ham (a): 4 changes

-------------lloris

Sat - PL - Arsenal (h): 3 changes

Something like that, I'm sure Poch has lineups in mind for each game and he'll tweak them for injuries and form as necessary.

Really good post, as it shows how complicated it must be to manage our players' minutes when every game is important. My only worry is Dier and Wimmer playing in every game and Kane and Toby playing all but one. I don't know if there's any way to stagger those changes, so that isn't the case, but that's a hell of a lot of work for Dier and Wimmer. I don't think we can really get away with playing one player 7 times in 4 weeks.

I could maybe imagine us playing a bit of a changed team vs Fiorentina away, and basically trying to shut up shop and play for a draw. Something like
--------------Lloris
Tripper--Toby--Davies---Rose
-----Bentaleb-Mason-
Lamela---Carroll---Onomah
-----------Chadli---------------

That's exactly what happens

It's actually quite basic level sports science. Players can't stay at optimum performance level - they go through cycles of peaks and drop-offs. The key to managing a squad is to have different players peaking at different times, so at any one time a core of your team are at their peak

The interesting case was Ramos, who got everyone's cycles in-sync, so every single player peaked for the LC final. But that was also a big factor in our following league collapse, as all the players were on drop-offs.

Anyone can get lucky in a cup run. Tim Sherwood got to the FA Cup final. Look at our league form under Ramos, it was laughable.

I think it's quite possible we could finish above Emirates Marketing Project. They have a deeper and better squad than us, but they are underachieving massively and are there for the taking. 3rd would be fantastic as we wouldn't have to sweat on the unthinkable happening of finishing 4th and English teams winning the CL and EL.
