Racism in football

f the great Rowan Atkinson, nobody has the right NOT to be offended.
Said in response to a proposal to create a crime of religious hatred rather than a wider point. Atkinson is an 'antithesist' and feels religion is a valid target and shouldn't be a protected characteristic (as it is a choice rather than a predetermination at birth).

He talks about the right to offend as a way of challenging society. That is not the same as saying something to deliberately humiliate or suppress individuals or groups.

I don't see it as any more serious than people having the micky taken out of them because they are ginger, having a big nose, or large feet. I live in a world surrounded by friends who love banter, and given the chance any one of them will take the p155 for what ever reason. Occasionally some of it is offensive, but it's my belief offence is taken and not given, and in the words of the great Rowan Atkinson, nobody has the right NOT to be offended.

Racist remarks should not be made on the playing field, but it's worth noting Vinicious Junior has already made about 20 complaints regarding racism, so perhaps even you may want to think about that one. There are so many bad things going on in the world, perhaps we should put things into perspective and realise a bit of name calling falls into the realms of insignificance. I would be happy to stand in the middle of a football pitch stark naked and allow people to sing what ever they want on the condition I get paid one weeks salary of a top football player, and I suspect you would as well.

You keep repeating the same things and most of it is being an apologist for racism, despite not condoning it.

Everyone can see if for what it is, including your misogyny on other posts.

One last attempt to drive some common sense into you. Some years ago Scott Parker had his head stamped on by Balotelli and Balotelli got a three match ban, whilst on the very same weekend Suarez made a racist remark to Evri and got a ten match ban. It's now got to a point where stamping on another players head is only 30% as bad as saying hurty words to another player. Surely even in your most woke and politically correct world that is complete nonsense? Do you really believe that Vinicious Junior laid awake the other night next to his gorgeous wife in his 15 bedroom luxury mansion was left crying about being called a monkey (even if that is true) ?????

We have got to a point in the UK where shop lifting has virtually been decriminalised, police don't turn up to house break-ins, and unless you have been hospitalized all your local constabulary will do is give you a crime number, yet call someone a hurty word related to their colour and the blue lights start flashing. It's a bonkers country supported by bonkers people with woke ideals

So change the rules in football for how many games stamping on someone's head incurs. The laws are outdated and out of sync, agreed.

Sure Vinicious didn't lie awake after the Benfica game but that doesn't mean that what was allegedly said was acceptable. Does crime only have value if someone is hurt or upset?

Your stats on police responses come from Advance UK I'd imagine. Over 80% of break ins are attended and whilst a large percentage don't get solved I'd suggest a lot of that is down to resources available to the police rather than them focusing on 'hurty' words (as you passive aggressively dismiss it).

But I'm sure you will continue to rant into the darkness about 'woke-ism' and 'lefty idealism' rather than have any desire to treat anyone and everyone fairly and equitably if it somehow impacts ever so slightly on your sunny upland existence. Good for you, Grandpa. Have a restful sleep.

What part of the video am I watching? It's 21 mins long. However, the comparison of what black people have suffered historically and what ginger people have "suffered" is disingenuous to say the least.

On your last sentence, the point is that it is wrong to like or dislike an entire group because of what they are.
Let's not forget that black people are discriminated against because of prejudice.

Gingers are discriminated against because they're evil, soul-stealing stains on the gene pool.

I think some people don't understand how hurtful and frightening it can be unless it happens to them. I'll never forget the fear and shame I felt in the 50's when I was out with my mixed race cousin and people called out at us, it made his young life a misery, how people can be so cruel is beyond me.
