Putin & Russia

The apogee of defensive advantage being trench warfare before tanks were invented.
...and I think that's flipped again now. To think of the cost and technology that goes into a tank...and some toe rag with a tube on his shoulder can blow the top off it and end the lives of all within the metal box....ditto all other military vehicles....ditto helicopters

finally it seems that there is a chance for war to wind down?
with winter coming, no trooper wants to be out there.

everyone's had their share of sabre rattling , can the politicians get downt to some serious diplomacy yet?

If Putin pulls out of Ukraine then I’m sure all will be fine. This is on one man/country, they can stop it all whenever they want, nothing to do with diplomacy.

Wonder if anyone would be brave enough to stage a coup against Putin, longer it goes on the more it should in theory be likely.

If he was overthrown is there any guarantees the next guy in line would abandon Ukraine etc.?

Navalny has signalled he would pull out of Donbas (implement the Minsk Agreement), but Crimea he would intend to keep (technically to be decided by a new referendum). That was his position back in 2014 anyway.

Things starting to rock inside Russia at last - the army refusing to send new troops into Ukraine, politicians calling for Putin's resignation and critical commentators appearing on state media.
