Priority positions this window

Richarlison covers Kane. For the first time in many many years, CF isn't a position we need to stregnthen

We do need at least 1 more wide forward though. At the moment, we really only have Son and Kulu

As long as we have Kane we will not use a 60m signing purely as his back up - he is first and foremost Son cover/competition and Kanes when needed

Agree, it was a simplistic way of look at it however either way, its 4 players for 3 positions, which isn't enough

Agreed. Tough another way of looking at it that's 3 players for two positions (Son, Kane, Richarlison covering both). With just the one player in Kulusevski for one position.

Gil shiwing signs of perhaps being able to step up changes that, but imo only slightly.

We need 2 or 3 senior players every summer window and 1 or 2 every January one
Add in a few younger players and that should be the right turnover of players that’s been lacking

4-5 players a season? be interesting to do the analysis on City/Pool/Madrid (sides that have got it right results wise to compare)

For me looking at our squad

Got to go/gone -> Lo Celso, Ndombele, Reguilon, Rodon, Sanchez, Royal, Sess, Lucas, Tanganga
Good for squad rotation but upgradable -> Forster, Dier, Davies, Doherty, Bissouma (could change if he settles in better)
Replace by end of next season -> Lloris, Perisic
Young players being evaluated -> Gil, Sarr, Spence, Udogie, Scarlett, Devine, White
Good for next 3 years -> Kane, Son, PEH
Good for next 5+ years -> Deki, Richarlison, Romero, Bentancur

So summary
- 7 players of required 1st team quality for next 3-5 years
- 2 players of required 1st team quality that will likely need replacing by end of next season
- 5 players for squad rotation
- 7 youth players, assume 2-3 will make it?
- 9 players with likely no future at club

Further summary
- 14 players that are "good enough" in squad for this season and next plus youth/up and coming
- If you add the youth actually not on loan -> total squad strength of 18

From this perspective we would need to add another 7-9 between this window and summer.

city buy the youngsters during the season
Not sure how they then fall into a window

But their last 3 seasons are attached

Generally agree with your summary, aside from PEH. I dont think he's in the same class as the two bottom groups in your categorisation and very definitely ungradeable

Similar to my list. The RWF is an interesting one. Any time we’ve had to play a right footer there the goal output has dried up and it doesn’t suit the system.

Therefore, the pool is quite small for me. A left footer who can also play a 2nd position as will not likely want to sit behind Kulu full time.

If you look through the league there are the likes of:

Mahrez
Bowen
Solly March
Neto
Almiron
Olise

And the untouchables like Salah, Saka and Anthony.

I’m sure I’ve missed a couple.

Or you consider a right footer but they have to have pace and carry a goal threat like Ismailia Sarr.

Or you tweak the system and go 4312….and play any 2 of Kane/Son/Rich and find an AM like Mac Allister. But Kane could always play behind Son and Richy - it just didn’t seem to work as we become narrow and the wing backs offer little in goals.

Maybe we are after the wrong Brighton player….

If we can't afford the players the coach needs, the priority should be a new coach

Couldn't agree more, it's time to back him or sack him. Not sure if the contract extension is because Conte isn't sure or if Levy isn't sure.

He has been backed. He's got more in his first year than any other manager in our history.

We've signed players but are they the ones or type he asked for. He's already said Spence was a club player for example. But more than that he's a manager who demands big spending for specific players for his system - if we aren't prepared to do that then what's the point of sticking with him.

He has input into who we get. How do you know they aren't the players he wanted?
