Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

That plan is missing one vital part - votes.

The Overton window in this country has shifted since the left was last relevant (2 generations ago). That kind of politics is outside the bounds of what is acceptable to the general public.

What a lot of self serving bull brick. The reason the Tories are able to remain in power for now is that the public think they can have their cake and eat it. They wrongly think that institutions that they are attached to viscerally such as the NHS are safe from the Tories. When the Tories go too far and they will, watch the turning.

I hope you're right because world politics is so depressing atm. That thousands have had to die before their populist alt right leaders are exposed as snake oil salesmen is an absolute tragedy.

Not to despair, the good sensible folk of New Zealand have a solid Labour government, so all is not lost yet. Trump got beaten in the US as well.

As much as I hate to admit it but you are probably right because of the stupid voting system where only "winning" votes count.
Not sure how much it is to do with voting systems.

Mainly this is about those policies/people being about 80 years out of date.

I think you need to leave your socialist echo chamber for a bit. Nobody wants what the left is offering any more.

As opposed to the right who are happy for thousands to die? What we all want are centrist governments. Ideally for me centre left.
I agree - hence my suggestion that the Labour party needs to split from it's mental, student wing and form a proper, electable party.

Some might say they already have.

I quite liked them nationalising rail track. Would like to see them do it with the whole railways.

I think some ideas like redistribution of wealth round the country is a good idea, I just don't believe them.

The saddest thing is that so many of their supporters know exactly what they are and still choose to support them. The populists give them permission to be who they actually are underneath.
Anyway, I'm feeling positive generally though this last 6 months or so. I see the tide turning.

Business has never been better, thanks.
Glad to hear it, but the right-wing govs worldwide have lost all claims to fiscal responsibility. The last 4-5 years have shown this to be the sham it really always was.

The so-called overton window has not shifted right. That is pure nonsense. It has been stretched both ways to include the wingnuts on the right and the environmentalists, among others, on the left. Hyper-partisanship is the real shift.

The leftmost end of the political spectrum that is electable is somewhere around late 90s Labour. You haven't got to look far past Corbyn's disasters to see that there's no stomach for that type of leftism any more.

There's also no scope for the extreme right that you appear so concerned about either. Other than some very noisy types on the internet, there's really no voter base for the BNP or their ilk.

Yes, there is no need for hard-right splinter groups in the UK anymore. They have merged with the main party and are in charge now. Finance and the economy isn't their thing either, apparently.

Leftism 101:

Invent boogeyman.
Blame boogeyman for lack of achievement
