The BIGGEST issue here is that our forwards are sitting off, as is Gallagher, and no-one is pressing. I presume this is some ploy to try and suck Forest in so as we can spring them on a counter, but it is poorly conceived. It smacks of small details we're still working out.

I'd have to watch it again but Tonali was chasing the player back, if he hadn't done so then it would have just been a clear shot on goal as VDV and Robertson had totally mis-read the play. I'm not sure what your complaint or criticism of Tonali is in that sitauation? At least on initial viewing its to his credit that he spotted the danger when none of the defense did and played his part in trying (but failing to stop it).

I'd have to see it again, and I'm no fan of Robertson, but on that play he was the only one of the back 4 holding the right line, Porro and at least one of the cb's hadn't got out

Yup. xG is even more about illustrating your finishing quality when lined up with the actual goals scored. xG by itself, especially game cumulative xG doesn't really tell you anything. The more shots you have for the same xG the worse the chances actually are.

No, Robertson can also have done nonsense on the move, but White ran through the middle of the pitch, ostensibly VDV side, where he should be positioned. I have 0 issue criticising the pair of them. Do you? Sounds like you want to absolve VDV of all responsibility in this situation and apportion it all to the LB…
 
Just rewatched the early MoTD highlights as I didn't pick up Williams reaction after the goal was disallowed. he obviously knew it had hit his hands yet still went away celebrating. 2 game suspension for deceiving the ref isn't it for that?

It's been a rule for years.

Common Examples: High kicks near opponents, low headers (diving with head low while an opponent is near to kick the ball), and playing from the ground where an opponent might accidentally kick the player.

High kicks make sense, but a diving header? That dangerous to the player going for the flipping header. Man i hate football these days. 🤣
