OMT - Tottenham Hotspur at Wolverhampton Wanderers

So he did nothing wrong there? Even attempting a defense for his actions there is crazy.
He lost the ball poorly, but the rest of the defense, including the midfield, should've been able to cover for a ball lost that far from the goal.
One pass shouldn't have been able to bypass the whole defence.

Taking the ball in midfield about 60 yards from the goal?
I’d say that wasn’t a mistake. It was a good tackle and pass from them
Nah it was a mistake. He overdid the play thinking his Lothar Matheus even knowing that he is a CB. Good decision making would have had him safely offload the ball once he ventured into their half. It was 100% a mistake and an example of his sometimes really confusing decision making.

Well if half that defence is in the opposition's half it does make it a little bit more difficult to defend....

It's a lot easier for one ball to bypass the whole defence when one of the defenders leaves a gaping hole in the back line (after giving the ball away in midfield when attempting to carry it forward).

Half the defence? There were several players between Dier and our goal, more than enough to stop one pass getting a player in one on one with Lloris

Watch it again and look at his options after he got the ball
The whole midfield was behind him
Not sure how he ended up furthest forward
It was a mistake but a mistake by being brave and coming out of defence

We don't need Dier to be "brave" and "come out of defence". We need Dier to leave the ball to the midfielders who are a lot more equipt than him to do something with it.

I wonder if you would have been so forgiving if Sissoko was playing and he lost the ball in the exact same circumstances ;)

So why didn’t the midfield get to the ball?

they were too deep
It was a poor pass out of Wolves defence
